Dax Milne News
Washington Commanders wide receiver Dax Milne (groin) has been placed on injured reserve. He had missed practice on Wednesday and Thursday, making it highly unlikely he'd be available for Week 1. Now, with his placement on IR, he's ineligible to return until Week 5 at the earliest. Milne wasn't a major contributor in the passing game, but he was expected to handle a significant special teams role as Washington's punt returner. Look for Antonio Gibson or Byron Pringle to handle punt returns in Milne's absence.
Washington Football Team wide receiver Dax Milne had a solid game to close out the preseason, taking advantage of the final dress rehearsal before the start of the regular season. The 2021 seventh-round pick has impressed head coach Ron Rivera throughout training camp and has potentially done enough to make it hard for the coaching staff to keep him off the roster. The 22-year old caught three passes for 36 yards on five targets, with his longest catch of the night going for 26 yards deep down the right sideline. Another noteworthy development out of the preseason finale was Milne being ahead of DeAndre Carter for a punt return. The competition between Milne, Carter, and Isaiah Wright would likely come down to who the coaching staff feels more comfortable in returning punts, so it seems the rookie has become the favorite out of the group. Regardless if he makes the roster or not, Milne is off the fantasy radar because of the limited targets that he will be given.
Going into the preseason finale on Saturday night, there are a number of wide receivers fighting for a roster spot. There is believed to be one or two openings for Antonio Gandy-Golden, Dax Milne, DeAndre Carter, And Isaiah Wright. Gandy-Golden had an impressive week of practice, so he seems to have carved out a spot for himself. Milne has received high praise from head coach Ron Rivera over the past couple of weeks, so another strong showing from the rookie could make it hard for the coaching staff to leave him off the roster. Wright, Carter, and Milne are battling to be the team's punt returner, so whoever is the most impressive fielding punts on Saturday could ultimately be the factor that separates one from the others. After Terry McLaurin, Dyami Brown, and Adam Humphries exit the game, the four players on the bubble could receive the majority of snaps on Saturday.
