Free-agent running back Derrius Guice has been suspended for the first six games of the 2021-22 season. Guice was arrested in 2020 for a domestic violence incident. However, the charges were dismissed in June after he reached a settlement with his accuser. The former second-round pick appeared in only five games with the Washington Football Team, finishing the 2019 campaign with 245 rushing yards and two touchdowns off 42 attempts while adding an additional score as a receiver. With a history of knee issues and questionable conduct, it's unlikely Guice will find employment anytime soon despite his obvious upside.
Two former LSU students claim they were raped by former Washington Football Team running back Derrius Guice in 2016. The women's allegations were shared with at least two coaches, an athletics administrator and a nurse, but the school doesn't appear to have investigated the incidents. Injuries have plagued his NFL career after he was a second-round pick in 2018, and he was cut by Washington on Aug. 7 following his arrest for multiple domestic-violence charges. Guice's attorney, Peter Greenspun, released a statement denying all allegations. The 23-year-old running back played in just five games over his first two seasons with Washington due to injuries, and he may not get another shot elsewhere after his arrest and these rape allegations.
The Washington Football Team has released running back Derrius Guice following a domestic abuse arrest. The oft-injured Guice was expected to be the lead back for Washington's running back committee this year, but the release obviously changes everything in Washington. Veteran running back Adrian Peterson should now see the bulk of the carries, while rookie Antonio Gibson gets chances on passing downs. Gibson gets a boost in dynasty leagues after Guice's release, while Peterson is now a viable top-100 pick in virtually all re-draft leagues. As for Guice, his arrest could be the end of his disappointing NFL career. He's off the radar in redraft and becomes borderline rosterable in dynasty.
Derrius Guice, Adrian Peterson, Bryce Love Will Have Roles
Washington Redskins running backs Derrius Guice, Adrian Peterson and Bryce Love, who was injured all of last year, are all expected to have roles in what is expected to be a running-back-by-committee approach to begin the season. Head coach Ron Rivera has always been the kind of coach to use multiple running backs, and he said his expectation in his first year in D.C. will be more of the same. Love's name came up a lot among Redskins sources at the combine. Guice should be the most attractive fantasy option of the trio, mainly in PPR leagues, but he also is a big injury risk. Peterson will be more of a touchdown-dependent, low-ceiling fantasy commodity, while Love's appeal still rests mostly in dynasty/keeper formats.
Washington Redskins running back Derrius Guice will not play again this season after being placed on IR with an MCL sprain. Both Guice's real-life team and fantasy owners have to be starting to wonder just how many serious knee injuries one player can withstand. After missing the entire 2018 season with a torn ACL and now this move to IR, Guice will wrap up the first two years of his career having appeared in just five games. Adrian Peterson will lead Washington's running game for the rest of the season, while Chris Thompson figures to step back into a somewhat prominent pass-catching role for the Redskins.
Washington running back Derrius Guice was diagnosed with a sprained MCL on Monday. Guice left early in his team's Week 14 loss to the Green Bay Packers after injuring his knee. The second-year running back has dealt with a litany of knee injuries in his short career, most notably a 2018 torn ACL which ended his rookie season. While it is good news that it wasn't Guice's ACL again, this is still yet another setback for the promising running back. There is a strong chance that Washington shuts him down for the final three games of the season as they will be cautious with the situation. Look for Adrian Peterson to handle the early-down work while Chris Thompson will see passing-down duties going forward.
Derrius Guice Will Not Return After Exiting With a Knee Injury
Washington Redskins running back Derrius Guice has been ruled out for the remainder of Week 14's game against the Green Bay Packers. Guice exited due to a knee injury and was immediately labeled as questionable to return. Not much later, he was ruled out for the rest of the contest. Before being forced to leave, Guice ran the ball five times for an explosive 42 yards. With all of Guice's previous knee issues, this is of course something to keep an eye on heading into Week 15 as well. Adrian Peterson will carry the load for Washington on the ground for as long as Guice is out.
Washington Redskins running back Derrius Guice (knee) exited Sunday's game vs the Packers and is being evaluated for a possible knee injury. Guice walked off under his own power, but given his injury history, there's reason to be concerned. The team doctors were looking at his left knee which is the one he injured earlier this season. The Redskins have listed him as questionable to return. Adrian Peterson would see an uptick in carries in Guice's absence.
Washington Redskins running back Derrius Guice couldn't have many better matchups in which to follow up on his excellent Week 13 outing. The Packers are allowing the sixth-most yards per game to running backs, and their 13 rushing touchdowns surrendered to RBs is the second-most. We know the Redskins would run the ball on every single play if they could, so look for Guice to once again be a focal point of his team's offensive game plan. Continuing to cap his upside is the presence of Adrian Peterson, but Guice proved last week that a backfield split isn't enough to totally neutralize him when the matchup is right. Guice should be viewed as a fantasy starter in all formats for Week 14.
Derrius Guice Does Major Damage In Breakout Performance
Washington Redskins running back Derrius Guice erupted for 129 yards and two touchdowns on just 10 carries in Sunday's win over the Panthers, marking by far the best performance of his young career. There was promise coming into the matchup against a porous Panthers run defense, with the downside being that Guice might continue to suffer from the even backfield split he's been sharing with Adrian Peterson. As it turns out, neither Guice nor Peterson were held back by limited touches, combining for 228 yards and three touchdowns between the two of them. Whether Guice earned himself a larger share of the opportunity going forward remains to be seen, but it's hard to ignore what he's capable of at this point. He should be firmly entrenched in the fantasy conversation for the remainder of 2019.
