DeShone Kizer Ready To Compete For Backup Job

Tennessee Titans quarterback DeShone Kizer has looked good in organized team activities and minicamp this offseason, especially on midrange routes across the middle. Kizer worked only with quarterbacks coach Pat O'Hara last year as the team's "quarantine QB," and his quick decision-making in offseason practices is evidence that he has a strong understanding of the playbook. Like starter Ryan Tannehill, the fifth-year veteran can make most of the necessary throws and can also make plays on the move. Kizer looks ready to compete with Logan Woodside for the backup job in training camp next month. The 25-year-old last played in 2018 with the Green Bay Packers, but he should be at least serviceable if he's forced into action in 2021 because of a Tannehill injury.

DeShone Kizer Works Out For Lions

Quarterback DeShone Kizer was brought in for a workout with the Detroit Lions on Thursday as a potential reserve signal-caller. Kizer has not appeared in a regular season contest since 2018 as a member of the Packers. He entered the league as a second-round pick in 2017, but went 0-15 during his tenure as the Browns starting quarterback. Kizer also recently worked out for the Titans. He holds no fantasy interest at this stage, but would join Chase Daniel and David Blough in competition for being Matthew Staffords backup should he sign with Detroit.

Raiders Cut DeShone Kizer

The Las Vegas Raiders cut quarterback DeShone Kizer on Tuesday, according to a source. Kizer didn't play at all last year after serving as quarterback depth behind Derek Carr for the Raiders. He's already been with three different teams since being a second-round pick (52nd overall) back in 2017 with the Browns. At best, Kizer would've been the No. 3 behind Carr and expensive backup Marcus Mariota in Las Vegas. Nathan Peterman will now serve as the No. 3 with Kizer moving on. If he finds another team, it'll be strictly as quarterback depth.

DeShone Kizer Leads Team In Final Preseason Matchup

Green Bay Packers quarterback Deshone Kizer led the team in the final preseason matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs. Kizer finished the game completing eight of his 15 attempts for 77 yards, one touchdown, and an interception. Kizer also added another 13 yards on the ground with one rush attempt. Kizer at this stage seems likely to win the backup quarterback job ahead of Tim Boyle but has limited fantasy relevance behind Aaron Rodgers.

DeShone Kizer Limited In Preseason Matchup

Green Bay Packers quarterback Deshone Kizer was limited in the preseason matchup against the Oakland Raiders. Kizer completed four of his seven attempts for 24 yards and an interception. Starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers sat out, due to the conditions of the field, leaving Kizer and Tim Boyle to lead the offense. Kizer has had an inconsistent preseason and training camp, but could still make the roster as the backup quarterback.

DeShone Kizer Leading Packers Without Rodgers

Green Bay Packers quarterback Deshone Kizer is leading the Packers in first-team reps with Aaron Rodgers struggling with back tightness. While Kizer is unlikely to challenge Rodgers for the starting quarterback position, his performances in camp could affect the perceived value of the surround skill players if Rodgers were to miss time. Kizer was able to connect on a deep pass to Marquez Valdes-Scantling in a recent practice and has looked comfortable in the team's new offense in the opening preseason games against the Houston Texans and Baltimore Ravens. Kizer won't be a consideration for fantasy drafts, but if Rodgers were to miss time could be a streaming option for owners.

DeShone Kizer Has Mixed Outing Against Baltimore

Green Bay Packers quarterback Deshone Kizer had a mixed outing in the team matchup against the Baltimore Ravens. Kizer is in a battle with Tim Boyle to be the backup to Aaron Rodgers, who was sat in the game due to tightness in his back. Boyle was given the majority of the work in this game, but Kizer was still able to log five completions from ten attempts for 70 yards. Kizer and Boyle are unlikely to have fantasy relevance this season unless Rodgers were to miss time- but the battle of the backups is certainly becoming more fiercely contested.

DeShone Kizer Starts For Green Bay In Opener

Green Bay Packers quarterback Deshone Kizer started for the Green Bay Packers in the preseason opener against the Houston Texans. Kizer threw the ball 13 times completing eight passes for 102 yards and a single touchdown, also adding three yards on the ground. Kizer was given limited opportunity to impress- but certainly looked impressive in his movement in the pocket. The signal-caller is highly unlikely to unseat quarterback Aaron Rodgers, but given this early performance, Kizer certainly looks to be the second string option for the team.

DeShone Kizer Heads Into Week 1 As Clear Backup

Green Bay Packers quarterback Deshone Kizer has a clearly defined role in Green Bay following the departure of quarterback Brett Hundley. Kizer will serve as the clear cut back-up to Aaron Rodgers. Green Bay will be playing the Chicago Bears in Week 1 and Kizer is not expected to see any playing time. Kizer is a talented, although unrefined quarterback who struggled during his rookie year in Cleveland. We saw last year that no quarterback outside of Aaron Rodgers is really all that capable of running Green Bays offense. So even if Rodgers were to go down, Kizer would not be a viable fantasy option. Kizer should not be owned in any league.

Packers Plan To Keep DeShone Kizer, Tim Boyle

After the trade of quarterback Brett Hundley to the Seahawks, the Green Bay Packers plan on keeping both Deshone Kizer and Tim Boyle as backups to Aaron Rodgers on the 53-man roster, according to a source. Kizer struggled mightily in his rookie year and was thrown into the fire before he was ready on an 0-16 Browns team. He's looked better in training camp with the Packers and obviously beat out Hundley in the battle for the No. 2 job. Kizer will only become fantasy relevant again if Rodgers is injured and misses time.
