Browns Add Drew Stanton As Backup, Expected To Shop Cody Kessler
The Cleveland Browns and quarterback Drew Stanton agreed to a two-year deal worth $6.5 million on Sunday. Stanton is expected to serve as a backup for Tyrod Taylor in the 2018 season. The team is fully expected to use an early draft pick on a rookie quarterback in the NFL draft in April, which could make third-year signal-caller Cody Kessler expendable. According to a report from NFL.com's Ian Rapoport, the Browns are expected to begin shopping Kessler. Kessler started eight games for Cleveland in 2016 but didn't show much improvement in his 2017 season. The Browns are unlikely to get much in return in a Kessler trade.
Free agent quarterback Drew Stanton signed to a two-year contract with the Browns. Stanton's agent first reported the deal by congratulating his client on social media. Stanton joins a crowded quarterback committee that now consists of the recently acquired Tyrod Taylor, Cody Kessler, and Kevin Hogan. It is likely Kessler or Hogan do not make it out of camp with Cleveland considering the Browns are fully expected to add another quarterback to their roster via the No. 1 or No. 4 pick in April's draft.
Arizona Cardinals quarterback Drew Stanton(knee) played the final two games of the 2017 season with a torn ACL. The fact that Stanton is an impending free agent and managed to play through his injury should help him get noticed by teams in search of a quarterback in this upcoming free-agency period. Stanton ended the season as a low-end QB2 option and is unlikely to land anything more than a backup job on the open market. The good news is that he's not expected to need surgery on his knee.
Drew Stanton Has Forgettable Performance In Cardinals Victory
Arizona Cardinals quarterback Drew Stanton had a forgettable performance in Sunday's game, completing 15 of his 34 pass attempts for 145 yards as well as a touchdown and an interception. Stanton ended the year as the team's starting quarterback. However, with Carson Palmer(if he doesn't retire) and Blaine Gabbert in the mix for next year as well as a potential new head coach, it seems unlikely that Stanton will maintain his role as the team's quarterback for the foreseeable future.
In his team's 23-0 win over the Giants, Arizona Cardinals quarterback Drew Stanton threw for 209 yards as well as two touchdowns and two picks. Stanton projected to be a mid-level QB2 for the week and delivered an expected performance, maintaining his value for the foreseeable future as a QB2 with limited upside.
Arizona Cardinals quarterback Drew Stanton should be considered a low-end QB2 against the Giants despite their porous defensive display this season. The Cardinals have demonstrated that they are not a high-powered offense this year, limiting Stanton's upside to nothing more than a desperation streaming option. Go with other quarterbacks unless you truly need one in Stanton.
J.J. Nelson Off Injury Report and Drew Stanton Is Questionable
Arizona Cardinals wide receiver J.J. Nelson(chest) has been taken off the injury report, while quarterback Drew Stanton (knee) is questionable to play in Week 12. Regardless, Blaine Gabbert will look to start this week and should be a low-end QB2, while Nelson is a boom-or-bust WR 3/4 who should be used as an upside play in most formats.
Arizona Cardinals wide receiver J.J. Nelson (chest) and quarterback Drew Stanton (knee) were limited in practice Wednesday. Both players should be active in Week 12, but Stanton will serve as the backup to Blaine Gabbert until he's closer to full health. Gabbert is the better quarterback of the two, so Stanton may not start again this year unless Gabbert falls flat on his face. Nelson could have a bigger role in the passing game if John Brown (toe) doesn't play, but Nelson is much too boom or bust to be a viable fantasy starter. He has caught three passes total in the last three games combined.
Arizona Cardinals quarterback Drew Stanton(knee) is active for Sunday's game against the Houston Texans. However, Blaine Gabbert has been listed as the starter and should be a low-end QB2 for the week. Stanton should not be rostered in any format as he is no longer the starter for the team, even though he may still see playing time if Gabbert can't perform.
Arizona Cardinals quarterback Drew Stanton (knee) practiced again on Friday. Stanton has made a quick recovery from the sprained knee he suffered in last week's loss to Seattle. Regardless, it looks like Blaine Gabbert will be under center Sunday against Houston in a less than juicy matchup.
