San Francisco 49ers wide receiver J.J. Nelson (knee) is expected to miss two to four weeks with a knee injury. And the wideout injuries continue for the 49ers in training camp. Jalen Hurd (knee) is already out for the season, Deebo Samuel (foot) might not be ready for Week 1, and rookie Brandon Aiyuk (hamstring) has been slowed this week. It's why the Niners have added Tavon Austin, Kevin White and River Cracraft recently. Nelson may not be ready for Week 1 because of his injury, but he was a long shot to have a meaningful role in the offense to begin with. Aiyuk (if healthy) and Kendrick Bourne figure to be the biggest beneficiaries of all the team's injuries at the position to begin the 2020 season.
Wide receivers JJ Nelson and Tavon Austin are both likely to sign with the San Francisco 49ers, pending physicals. It's not surprising that the team is adding receiver depth with Deebo Samuel (broken foot) out for the start of the year. Brandon Aiyuk, Kendrick Bourne and Dante Pettis are currently in place to serve as the top receivers for the team to start the year, but the additions of veterans like Nelson and Austin should help give quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo some additional support. Nelson and Austin don't need to be on draft radars at this point as they'll likely see limited snaps in four-receiver sets and gadget plays.
The Oakland Raiders cut wide receiver J.J. Nelson on Thursday and re-signed receiver Marcell Ateman, according to a source. Nelson struggled with injuries in Oakland and had four catches for 36 yards and a touchdown in his one game played this season. Ateman will become receiver depth in the absence of Nelson. He won't be on the fantasy radar. The 2018 seventh-round pick of the Raiders caught 15 passes (31 targets) for 154 yards and a touchdown in seven games in his rookie season.
Oakland Raiders rookie running back Josh Jacobs (elbow) and wide receiver J.J. Nelson (knee) were both limited in practice on Wednesday. Jacobs should play in London in Week 5 against the Bears, but Chicago's defensive front is tough on opposing runners, making the rookie a low-end RB2/high-end RB3 in this matchup. Nelson was inactive in Week 4 but could make his return this weekend. He could have an expanded role with Tyrell Williams (foot) banged up, but even if Williams were to miss the game, Nelson would be a tough sell as a WR4/flex against the Bears Defense.
Oakland Raiders wide receiver J.J. Nelson (ankle) is inactive for Week 4 against the Colts. With Nelson out, the Raiders will rely on Tyrell Williams and rookie Hunter Renfrow in the passing game. Tight end Darren Waller could easily lead the team in targets in Indy, and he's a high-end TE1. Rookie Keelan Doss could be the third wideout in three-receiver sets in this one with Dwayne Harris also inactive.
Oakland Raiders wide receiver J.J. Nelson had a nice welcome back game after dealing with an ankle injury throughout the first few weeks of the season. He hauled in a 29-yard touchdown in the second quarter on a flea-flicker from quarterback Derek Carr, finishing the day with four catches for 36 yards. Nelson is a boom or bust option in fantasy and is better off left alone on waiver wires. His big-play ability is admirable, but he's never shown much consistency over his career and won't develop into a primary target in this offense.
Oakland Raiders wide receiver J.J. Nelson got in a limited session at Wednesday's practice as he still recovers from an ankle injury. His ailment dates back to Week 2 of the preseason, which limited him to eight snaps in Week 1 and him not even dressing up for last week's game. Nelson has a shot to suit up for the team's matchup versus the Vikings this weekend, but he'll carry no fantasy value whatsoever. He'll be fourth in line for targets as Darren Waller and Tyrell Williams will remain dominating opportunities while Hunter Renfrow's role continues to grow as the slot man. Nelson has big-play ability but can't be relied upon even when he returns to full health.
Oakland Raiders wide receiver J.J. Nelson (ankle) didn't practice all week and has been ruled out for Week 2 against the Chiefs at home. Nelson didn't put up any numbers in the regular season opener against the Broncos and is currently behind Tyrell Williams, Ryan Grant, Dwayne Harris and rookie Hunter Renfrow on the receiving depth chart. Nelson has no business being on fantasy rosters right now, even after the team released Antonio Brown last weekend.
Oakland Raiders wide receiver J.J. Nelson did not participate in the team's practice on Wednesday. He's still recovering from a sprained ankle from Week 2 in the preseason that resulted in him seeing only eight snaps in the regular season opener on Monday. Nelson is WR2 on the team's depth chart, but he won't be contributing this kind of production until at least Week 3. The offense looked sharp without the 27-year-old against the Broncos, so they'll be sure to take it easy with his reps moving forward. Nelson can be left off fantasy rosters until we see some on-field production.
Oakland Raiders wide receiver J.J. Nelson will now step into a starting role with the recent loss of Antonio Brown. He's been limited in all of the team's practices this week as he recovers from a preseason Week 2 ankle injury, but the team hasn't shown any concern for his availability Monday night. Nelson has a tough matchup versus the Broncos in Week 1 and doesn't hold much fantasy value in season-long leagues despite the promotion. He has superb playmaking ability but has never found enough consistency over his career to be a reliable fantasy option. Nelson's value this year will come in favorable matchups on the DFS slate, but Week 1 is not a recommended play.
