Josh Jacobs News
The Las Vegas Raiders declined the fifth-year options on running back Josh Jacobs, safety Johnathan Abram and defensive end Clelin Ferrell on Friday. Jacobs had over 1,000 rushing yards in each of his first two seasons after he was taken with the 24th overall selection in 2019 and was a Pro Bowler in 2020, but he has yet to play a full season in the NFL and has had plenty of ups and downs. The 24-year-old was a top-10 fantasy back down the stretch last year, but mainly because Kenyan Drake was sidelined due to injury. With Drake coming back healthy this year and with the Raiders potentially taking another RB in the draft, Jacobs will be better off being taken as an RB2 in fantasy drafts.
Las Vegas Raiders running back Josh Jacobs could see more screen passes come his way in 2022 under new head coach Josh McDaniels. In 2021, quarterback Derek Carr had 5.2% of his pass yardage come from screens, which ranked 25th in the league. New England Patriots quarterback Mac Jones had 9.7% of his yardage come from screens, which ranked 11th in the NFL. Jacobs did have a career-high 54 receptions on 64 targets for 348 yards this year, but he could have to contend with Kenyan Drake more in the screen game next season. Either way, Jacobs should benefit from the addition of the offensive mastermind that is McDaniels. He'll be a low-end RB1 target in an offense that should become more efficient.
Las Vegas Raiders running back Josh Jacobs finished with 13 carries for 83 yards while adding four grabs for 44 yards during the postseason loss to Cincinnati. The 23-year-old was dealing with a rib issue entering Saturday, although it didn't slow him down as he strongly capped off another solid year. Jacobs certainly hasn't hit his peak, at least it seems, so he has an excellent chance to exceed his fantasy ADP expectations heading into the 2022-23 campaign, depending on who takes over the coaching duties in Las Vegas. His health has also been an issue, so he must remain healthy for managers to benefit.
