Matthew Golden Practicing in Full

Green Bay Packers rookie first-round wide receiver Matthew Golden (Achilles) should be good to go for Wild-Card weekend against the division-rival Chicago Bears this Saturday night after being listed as a full participant at Tuesday's practice. Golden played all of the team's offensive snaps in the Week 18 loss to the Minnesota Vikings, with the Packers resting some of their regulars, but the 22-year-old still wasn't able to capitalize with Clayton Tune running the offense. Golden caught one of his three targets for only eight yards to close out what was a disappointing first year in the NFL. The Texas product was a popular rookie breakout candidate in the preseason, but he ended up with only 29 receptions for 361 yards and no touchdowns in 2025. Green Bay's receiving corps is pretty healthy heading into the playoffs, making Golden pretty hard to trust in fantasy lineups.

Matthew Golden has a "Very Bright Future" in Green Bay

Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur said on Friday that rookie first-round wide receiver Matthew Golden has a "very bright future" in Green Bay, according to Rob Demovsky of ESPN. The Packers' coaching staff was singing Golden's praises during training camp and the preseason, too, leading many to believe that a breakout was coming in Year 1 for the Texas alum. It has not happened in 2025, as Golden has been buried in Green Bay's crowded receiver room. Jayden Reed and Christian Watson have missed time with injuries this year, but Golden has just been unable to become a consistent part of the team's passing attack alongside the likes of Romeo Doubs and Dontayvion Wicks. Golden enters the Week 18 regular-season finale against the division-rival Minnesota Vikings with only 28 catches on the year for 353 yards and zero touchdowns. He has only one target in two of the team's last three games.

Matthew Golden in Line for Increased Playing Time in Week 18?

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Matthew Golden has had an underwhelming rookie season, recording 28 catches for 353 yards on 41 targets across 13 games. The 22-year-old is still searching for his first NFL touchdown heading into the team's regular season finale in Week 18 against the Minnesota Vikings. Golden has also been impacted by injury in the second half of the season, missing multiple games in November due to a wrist injury. On a more positive note, Golden played 53% of Green Bay's offensive snaps in Week 17, his largest snap share in any game since Week 8. Packers wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks (concussion) suffered a concussion early in Week 17, allowing a pathway to playing time for Golden. Green Bay enters Week 18 locked into the number seven seed in the NFC playoffs, so the team has little incentive to rush Wicks back to the field. The Packers could also choose to be cautious with top wideouts Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs, and Jayden Reed. Golden could be in line for a significant uptick in playing time in Week 18 against the Minnesota Vikings.

Matthew Golden Sees an Uptick in Opportunities Due to Injuries

Green Bay Packers rookie wide receiver out of Texas, and first-round pick in 2025, Matthew Golden, earned four targets and caught three of them for 55 yards in Week 15's loss to the Denver Broncos. The four targets were the most that Golden has seen since Week 7, and with the injury to Christian Watson (chest, shoulder), Golden was thrust into duties and played more snaps than he has since the return of Watson's ACL injury and the return of Jayden Reed from the Injured Reserve. Although Golden's fantasy value is on the rise due to the injury situation, he is still hard to trust in any format this week against the Chicago Bears. On the season, he has 27 receptions for 341 yards and no touchdowns, for a total of 52 fantasy points in 11 games played.

Matthew Golden Still Hard to Trust as a Flex Option

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Matthew Golden was pressed into more duty following the injury to Christian Watson (chest) in Week 15, and looks to carve out a meaningful role when the Packers head to Soldier Field to take on the Chicago Bears. Golden tied Jayden Reed for the most receiving yards on the Packers in Week 15 against Denver, with 55. He also caught all three of his targets in the loss, but Golden was much more involved against the Broncos than in Week 14 against the Bears. This time around, against the Bears in Week 16, there is much more uncertainty with a couple of Packers donning a questionable tag, including Watson and Dontayvion Wicks (ankle). For fantasy, there's too big a hill to climb for Golden to get the requisite workload that turns into fantasy value, so he's a recommended sit when the Packers face the Bears on Saturday in Week 16.

Matthew Golden Worth Rostering Due to Injury Uncertainty in Green Bay

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Matthew Golden has mostly had an underwhelming rookie season to this point, recording 27 catches for 341 yards on 37 targets across 11 games. The 22-year-old has not played more than 37% of Green Bay's offensive snaps in any game since Week 8. However, Packers wide receiver Christian Watson (chest) suffered a chest injury in Week 15 that has his status for the team's Week 16 matchup against the Chicago Bears in question. If Watson is sidelined, Golden could have an opportunity for increased playing time. In Week 15, three of Golden's four targets and two of his three receptions came after Watson exited the game. In PPR fantasy leagues with 12 or more teams where Golden remains available, he should be added off the waiver wire and stashed until more information is known about Watson's injury status.

Tough to Trust Matthew Golden in Fantasy Against Broncos

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Matthew Golden (wrist) put in a full practice on Friday after two limited sessions on Wednesday and Thursday, and Golden will be good to go when the Packers head to Denver to face the Broncos. Returning to game action in Week 14, Golden earned just a single target from quarterback Jordan Love on four pass routes. Head coach Matt LaFleur stated Golden would be limited to "pass situations only" when talking about Golden's role in Week 14, so clearly, that limited his fantasy points potential. With all of the pass-catching options for the Packers healthier heading into Week 15, Golden may have trouble getting on the field with players like Christian Watson, Jayden Reed, Romeo Doubs, and others ahead of him. Golden is a very risky bet for fantasy success in Week 15 against a stout Denver defense.

Matthew Golden Listed as Limited Again in Thursday's Practice

Green Bay Packers rookie wide receiver Matthew Golden (wrist) was a limited participant again in Thursday's practice session, according to Rob Demovsky of ESPN. Golden has been held back by a nagging wrist injury for a few weeks now, and it contributed to him barely playing on Sunday against the Chicago Bears. The rookie first-rounder played just 9.4% of the offensive snaps and saw one target. It was by far his lowest snap share of the season, with his previous low being the last game he played in Week 11 against the New York Giants. It's difficult to see Golden's role ticking back up with Jayden Reed returning from injury in Week 14, and the Texas product can't be trusted by fantasy managers in a tough Week 15 matchup against the Denver Broncos on the road.

Matthew Golden was Limited by Wrist Injury in Week 14

ESPN's Rob Demovsky writes that Green Bay Packers rookie first-round wide receiver Matthew Golden (wrist) was limited by his wrist injury in the Week 14 win over the Chicago Bears on Sunday. Dontayvion Wicks (ankle) was also limited, allowing Bo Melton to step into the No. 4 receiver role. Melton's only catch of the game was a big 45-yard touchdown. The 22-year-old Golden returned to action on Sunday and disappointed, failing to haul in his only target while playing just five offensive snaps. The Texas product had missed the previous two games with shoulder and wrist injuries. Golden should have a bigger role in a Week 15 matchup on the road against the 11-2 Denver Broncos, but fantasy managers just cannot trust him in a tough matchup while being buried in a crowded receiving corps that just got Jayden Reed back from Injured Reserve.

Matthew Golden Active for Week 14 Against Bears

Green Bay Packers rookie wide receiver Matthew Golden (wrist) is officially active for Sunday's Week 14 game against the Chicago Bears. He had been listed as questionable after practicing in a limited capacity. The 22-year-old returns from a two-game absence and will look to turn around a disappointing rookie season. Through nine games this year, he has 24 catches for 286 yards and zero touchdowns. Golden will face a tougher pass to productivity this week now that Jayden Reed has returned from injured reserve. Reed, Christian Watson, and Romeo Doubs all figure to be more involved than Golden once again. The Texas product can be benched in most fantasy leagues.
