Chris Brooks Emerging as Top Handcuff to Stash?

Green Bay Packers running back Chris Brooks could be emerging as a top handcuff to stash in fantasy football leagues after news broke on Tuesday that starting RB Josh Jacobs has been arrested and booked into jail on five charges, including domestic abuse. If Jacobs is eventually suspended by the NFL to begin the 2026 season, both Brooks' and MarShawn Lloyd's short-term fantasy value for the upcoming season could skyrocket with Emanuel Wilson now out of town. The 26-year-old Brooks, a former undrafted free agent out of BYU, began his NFL career with the Miami Dolphins in 2023, but he has spent the last two seasons in Green Bay. In 32 games (zero starts) with the Packers, he has seen 63 carries for 289 yards (4.6 yards per tote) and one touchdown on the ground, adding 24 catches for 160 yards and no TDs as a pass-catcher. Because of Lloyd's lengthy injury history, Brooks is ranked a tad higher (No. 71 RB) in half-PPR formats for the 2026 campaign. Brooks could be Green Bay's go-to back if Jacobs is hit with a suspension.

Chris Brooks Carries Buy-Low Dynasty Appeal into 2026

Three years into his NFL career, Green Bay Packers running back Chris Brooks has recorded just 106 touches across 41 games played. The 26-year-old appeared in 17 games for the Packers in 2025 and recorded 197 yards from scrimmage on 40 total touches. However, Brooks enters 2026 with a chance to take over the RB2 role in Green Bay behind Josh Jacobs following the departure of former Packers backup running back Emanuel Wilson in free agency. Brooks' main competition for the role appears to be 2024 third-rounder MarShawn Lloyd, who has been limited by injuries to just six carries across the first two years of his career. As long as Jacobs is healthy, he should continue to play a three-down role and dominate backfield touches in Green Bay. Still, Brooks would immediately emerge as one of the better handcuff options in the league if he becomes his team's primary backup. Brooks profiles as an appealing buy-low candidate for fantasy managers heading into 2026.

Chris Brooks the Preferred Handcuff in Green Bay?

Green Bay Packers running back Chris Brooks has ascended into the No. 2 role on the depth chart ahead of the 2026 NFL season. The offseason is still young, and we certainly can't rule out the Packers adding another impact running back via the draft or free agency. However, as it stands, the 26-year-old Brooks is set to back up Josh Jacobs after the team saw Emanuel Wilson depart for the Seattle Seahawks. Originally a Miami Dolphin, Brooks spent the last two years in a depth role with Green Bay. He started to generate some buzz in 2025 as the Packers' backfield dealt with injuries, resulting in him finishing the year with 106 rushing yards, 13 catches, and 91 receiving yards. He didn't have a huge role by any means, but he did finish the regular season on a positive note with 13 carries for 61 yards in Week 18. Given that Jacobs is 28 years old and played through a lingering knee injury last year, it's not a bad idea for Jacobs' dynasty managers to trade a late-round pick for his handcuff, which, at the moment, would be Brooks.

Packers Re-Sign Chris Brooks to Two-Year Deal

The Green Bay Packers and running back Chris Brooks agreed to a two-year, $4.85 million deal on Wednesday, according to Matt Schneidman of The Athletic. Brooks served as the team's RB3 in 2025 behind starter Josh Jacobs and Emanuel Wilson, carrying the ball only 27 times for 106 yards and no touchdowns in 17 regular-season games, adding a career-high 13 catches for another 91 yards on 17 targets. Wilson isn't expected to be tendered a contract as a restricted free agent, but Brooks will most likely operate as Green Bay's RB3 again in 2026 behind Jacobs and MarShawn Lloyd, if he's healthy. The 26-year-old former undrafted free agent out of BYU only has 395 rushing yards and one touchdown on 82 rushing attempts in his first three years in the NFL. He spent his rookie season in 2023 with the Dolphins.

Chris Brooks a Candidate for Increased Carries

Green Bay Packers running back Chris Brooks could possibly see a larger role on offense this weekend. Lead back Josh Jacobs (knee) is uncertain to suit up for the Week 12 matchup against the Minnesota Vikings. If he sits, Emanuel Wilson is likely to take over as the lead back in Green Bay. That means, Brooks would move up to the primary backup if Jacobs is unavailable. Brooks hasn't played much this season, but that's not surprising for a third string back. He could be worth a look as a desperation flex play if Jacobs is ruled out.

Chris Brooks Retains Minor Role in Week 3

Green Bay Packers running back Chris Brooks looks to build on his minor role within the Packers' offense as they travel to Cleveland to play the Browns in Week 3. Brooks has played well above fellow running back Emanuel Wilson this season and has gained more snaps from Week 1 (9) to Week 2's 13. Brooks could see a little more time on the field with Josh Jacobs (ankle) a bit banged up, though Jacobs came off the injury report after three limited practice sessions. While Brooks remains a clear role player for the Packers, Brooks' role would increase if something were to happen to Jacobs. Brooks' situational role with the Packers keeps him well away from starting consideration for fantasy in Week 3.

Chris Brooks To Retain Minor Role Behind Josh Jacobs in Week 2

Green Bay Packers running back Chris Brooks looks to build on his minor role within the team's offense as the Packers host the Washington Commanders in Week 2. Brooks played well in Green Bay's preseason games, and his status in the running back pecking order ahead of fellow back Emanuel Wilson remained true. While Brooks remains a clear and distant role player for the Packers, he did get much more work than Wilson did. If something happened to Josh Jacobs, it's fair to say Brooks' role would increase in what would likely be a split backfield with Wilson. Brooks' situational role keeps him firmly on waivers for Week 2.

Chris Brooks Totals 15 Yards In Final Preseason Tune-Up

Green Bay Packers running back Chris Brooks was the second back to enter the game for the Packers in their 20-7 victory over the Seattle Seahawks in their third and final preseason game. Brooks took over duties after Josh Jacobs received the first two snaps of the game. Playing seven snaps of his own, Brooks exited and gave way to Emanuel Wilson. In Brooks' seven snaps across the last play of the first drive and the first six plays of the next drive, Brooks took four carries for 15 yards. With the injury to MarShawn Lloyd (hamstring) putting his Week 1 status in doubt, Brooks' entrance into the game ahead of Wilson seems to put Brooks as the preferred contingent play in Week 1 should Lloyd not be healthy. That said, Brooks should only be drafted in the deepest of leagues as a pure handcuff option.

Chris Brooks Sees Two Carries, Mixes In With Starters In Packers' Preseason Victory

Green Bay Packers running back Chris Brooks looks to continue carving out a role in the Packers' backfield and stated his case in the Packers' 23-19 win over the Indianapolis Colts on Saturday afternoon. Mixing in with MarShawn Lloyd, Brooks saw the second-most snaps with the Packers' starters per Pro Football Focus' Nathan Jahnke. Seeing mostly late-down work, particularly on third down, Brooks may have an opening to see a little bit of work behind Josh Jacobs and Lloyd as the third running back, ahead of Emanuel Wilson. From Week 6 through the end of last season, Brooks averaged 15 snaps a game for the Packers in 2024 as the third back in a rotation with Jacobs and Wilson. Brooks looks to be in line for that same role this season, but unfortunately, it's not a fantasy-friendly role even with an injury ahead of him. Keep him undrafted or on waivers to begin the season.

Packers Have Confidence in Chris Brooks as RB2

Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur said there's nothing that running back Chris Brooks can't do and also expressed confidence in Brooks as the team's RB2 behind Josh Jacobs with both Emanuel Wilson and MarShawn Lloyd out with injuries currently at training camp. Brooks and Wilson stepped up behind Jacobs in 2024 with Lloyd playing in just one game in his rookie season due to injuries. The 25-year-old Brooks handled only 36 rushing attempts for 183 yards and a touchdown, although he averaged over five yards per carry for the second straight season. He added 11 catches for 69 yards on 13 targets in 15 regular-season games (no starts). While it's nice that Green Bay has confidence in Brooks to back up Jacobs if needed, he's not going to be very relevant in fantasy unless both Wilson and Lloyd aren't ready to go for the start of the regular season.
