Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Dwayne Haskins has passed away on Saturday morning. The former Ohio State standout was hit by a car in South Florida. This is tragic news as Haskins would've turned 25 on May 3. He was originally drafted by Washington in the first round in 2019. He spent two seasons in Washington before joining the Pittsburgh Steelers roster. The young quarterback still had plenty of potential and it's heartbreaking to lose such a promising talent at a young age.
The Pittsburgh Steelers are using an original-round tender on restricted free-agent quarterback Dwayne Haskins, according to a source. Haskins will make $2.54 million on the tender this season. The Steelers were always expected to bring Haskins back, especially after Ben Roethlisberger retired. Pittsburgh picked Haskins up after he was released by the Washington Commanders, but he didn't play at all in 2021. The former first-round pick are looking at all options at the position heading into next season, but as of right now, Haskins and Mason Rudolph are projected to compete for the starting job in training camp. Even if the 24-year-old wins the job over Rudolph, he won't be a very attractive fantasy option, even in two-QB leagues.
Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert said the team plans to place a tender on impending restricted free-agent quarterback Dwayne Haskins. "Dwayne will be a restricted free agent, and I'm sure we'll decide to tender him at some point. So we have Dwayne and we have Mason," Colbert said. The tender they put on him is unlikely to be a high one, which will allow them to hang onto the former first-rounder for cheap. The Steelers are likely to add another QB either through free agency, a trade or the draft, but Haskins and Mason Rudolph are expected to compete for the starting job this summer. Haskins lasted just 16 games with the Washington Commanders before being released in 2020. He has a big arm but proved to be slow with his decisions and inaccurate.
Mason Rudolph, Dwayne Haskins Expected To Compete In 2022
With Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger acknowledging already that this is his final season, the Steelers will head into the offseason knowing that they need a franchise QB. Outgoing general manager Kevin Colbert, who is expected to retire after April's draft, has traded a first-round pick for a player just one time, and he's traded up into the first round just three times since 2000. It makes it unlikely that Pittsburgh would trade multiple first-rounders for Aaron Rodgers or Russell Wilson, according to one source. Mason Rudolph and Dwayne Haskins are expected to be able to compete for the starting job in 2022, with the team also likely to add a QB in the draft, perhaps Pitt's Kenny Pickett. Rudolph figures to have a leg up in the competition, but Haskins is a former first-rounder that has caught the eye of head coach Mike Tomlin.
Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Dwayne Haskins got the start and played extensively in his team's final preseason game. Haskins struggled to move the offense against the Carolina Panthers in the 34-9 loss on Friday. While the Steelers rested most of their starters, the Panthers played many of theirs, resulting in the lopsided score and plenty of issues for Haskins under center. Facing constant pressure from the pass rush, Haskins completed nine of 16 passes for 108 yards, one touchdown, and one interception in the contest. It appeared that his day was over in the third quarter but Haskins was forced back into action in the fourth when Josh Dobbs injured his toe. The former Washington Football Team signal-caller is expected to open the season as the QB3 in Pittsburgh.
Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said that quarterback Dwayne Haskins will start the team's preseason finale on Friday night against the Carolina Panthers. Haskins led three touchdown drives in the second preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles, but he played a small role last weekend after Ben Roethlisberger got the start. With most of the starters resting this Friday, Haskins will once again see more action, but he appears to be behind Mason Rudolph for the backup job to Big Ben this season. The 24-year-old former first-round pick of the Washington Football Team has made a good impression with his new team, but he remains well off the fantasy radar in redraft leagues and isn't a must-stash in dynasty.
Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Dwayne Haskins turned in a quality performance in his team's second preseason game. Haskins completed 16 of 22 passes for 161 yards and a touchdown in his team's 24-16 win over the Philadelphia Eagles. The young quarterback has been drawing rave reviews for his performance during camp this year and he continued that strong performance on Thursday night. Haskins' lone touchdown pass was a 22-yard completion to wide receiver Anthony Johnson in the third quarter. Haskins has been engaged in a camp battle with Mason Rudolph for the No. 2 quarterback job behind Ben Roethlisberger. Rudolph helped his case on Thursday, as well, completing eight of nine passes for 77 yards. Whoever wins the job could possibly see some action in the regular season considering Roethlisberger's age and injury history.
Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Dwayne Haskins has looked "surprisingly good" at camp, according to The Athletic's Mark Kaboly. Haskins was inserted into practice during the team's two-minute drill on Tuesday and completed four of six passes for 67 yards and a touchdown. According to Kaboly, Haskins has not shown any of the immature behavior or issues that got him released by the Washington Football Team last season. Haskins has reportedly been excellent on play-action and his decision-making has been good thus far in camp. Haskins is in a position battle to overtake Mason Rudolph as the No. 2 quarterback and possible heir apparent as the starter when Ben Roethlisberger moves on following 2021. He isn't on the radar in redraft fantasy leagues but he should be stashed in deeper, superflex dynasty leagues going forward.
Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Dwayne Haskins put together a good week of practice as he attempts to win the No. 2 QB job in camp. Head coach Mike Tomlin stated, "I like what he's doing. He's taking care of the ball, but at the same time, he's being aggressive." Haskins has been working as the No. 3 quarterback behind Ben Roethlisberger and Mason Rudolph thus far. According to The Athletic's Mark Kaboly, Haskins is fitting into new OC Matt Canada's offense, has flashed a strong arm, and has shown good accuracy. While he's far off the radar in redraft, Haskins is worth keeping tabs on in deep, superflex dynasty leagues as this is expected to be the final season of Roethlisberger's career and Haskins could get a shot at the starting job in 2022.
The wife of Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Dwayne Haskins Jr. is facing a domestic-violence charge stemming from an alleged assault involving Haskins that took place in a Las Vegas hotel room earlier this month. Kalabrya Gondrezick-Haskins is accused of punching Haskins in the mouth. Haskins reportedly had a split upper lip and a missing tooth and suffered other injuries to his mouth that would require dental work to repair his teeth. While Haskins' injuries shouldn't keep him from participating in training camp, it's just another off-the-field distraction for the former first-round pick by the Washington Football Team in 2019. Haskins flamed out quickly in D.C. and signed a one-year deal with Pittsburgh this year in hopes of reviving his career. Haskins is well off the fantasy radar in redraft leagues, and it's hard to justify hanging onto him in dynasty leagues, too.
