Eric Weddle To Have Surgery For Torn Pec Muscle

Los Angeles Rams safety Eric Weddle said that he will need surgery soon after tearing his pectoral muscle in the Super Bowl win over the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday. Weddle suffered the injury in the first half while making a tackle on Bengals running back Joe Mixon. He left the field and put a harness on before returning to action. In the Super Bowl win, the 37-year-old was credited with four tackles (one assist). Weddle came out of retirement for the Rams playoff run after not playing at all in 2020. His veteran experience paid off for a Rams secondary that had been plagued by injuries late in the season. Weddle, who will now re-retire after winning a ring, had six solo tackles and a tackle for loss in the three playoff games leading up to the Super Bowl.

Rams Elevate Eric Weddle From Practice Squad

The Los Angeles Rams elevated defensive back Eric Weddle to the team's active roster from their practice squad ahead of Super Bowl LVI against the Cincinnati Bengals. He racked up nine tackles in the NFC Championship Game win over the San Francisco 49ers. The 37-year-old came out of retirement to join the Rams ahead of the playoffs. Weddle has recorded 13 tackles over the last two games and is expected to have a key defensive role in the Super Bowl versus Cincinnati.

Eric Weddle To Retire After Super Bowl

Los Angeles Rams safety Eric Weddle, who came out of retirement to join the Rams for their playoff run this year, said this week that he plans to retire again following Super Bowl LVI. The 37-year-old played only 19 defensive snaps in the team's wild-card win over the Arizona Cardinals and then saw action on 60 plays in the Divisional Round win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before playing on all 50 snaps in the NFC Championship win over the San Francisco 49ers. The two-time All-Pro and six-time Pro Bowler actually led the Rams in tackles last Sunday against the 49ers, and he's chasing his first Super Bowl ring that eluded him in his first 13 NFL seasons. Weddle's ability to return to the NFL after two years out of the league is a testament to his physical abilities.

Eric Weddle Added To Rams Active Roster

The Los Angeles Rams officially elevated formerly retired safety Eric Weddle from their practice squad to the active roster in order to play in Monday night's wild-card game against the division-rival Arizona Cardinals. Defensive back Blake Countess also joined the active roster. The Rams needed more secondary depth after starting safety Jordan Fuller (ankle) was placed on Injured Reserve last week. Weddle will be active to close out super wild-card weekend, but given the fact that he hasn't played since retiring after the 2019 season, we shouldn't expect the 37-year-old to be on the field all that much. LA will also be missing safety Taylor Rapp (concussion), so Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray could have some success deep down the field if he's given enough time to throw.

Rams Sign Eric Weddle Wednesday

The Los Angeles Rams signed safety Eric Weddle to their practice squad on Wednesday for their playoff run, according to his agent, David Canter. Jordan Fuller (ankle), the team's defensive play-caller, was placed on Injured Reserve and will miss the rest of the season. Safety Taylor Rapp is also in the concussion protocol, while cornerback Darious Williams suffered a shoulder injury in the Week 18 regular season finale, so the Rams secondary is banged up heading into the wild-card game against the Arizona Cardinals on Monday night. Weddle, 37, retired after the 2019 season when he started all 16 games as a team captain and defensive signal-caller. It's unclear if the six-time Pro Bowl will join the active roster ahead of Monday's game, but at the very least, he'll provide some useful veteran depth.

Eric Weddle Announces Retirement

Los Angeles Rams safety Eric Weddle announced his retirement from football on his social media on Thursday. The 35-year-old played 13 seasons for the Chargers, Ravens and Rams. He just recently underwent his first surgery of his career this month, a meniscus trim in his knee. In 210 career games, Weddle made six Pro Bowls, was a five-time All-Pro, recorded 1,235 total tackles, made 30 interceptions, had 103 passes defensed, recorded 11.5 sacks, had 41 tackles for loss, five touchdowns, eight forced fumbles and seven fumble recoveries. In his heyday, Weddle was one of the best all-around safeties in the game.

Eric Weddle Undergoes Surgery

Los Angeles Rams safety Eric Weddle (knee) underwent a meniscus trim and is expected to recover in weeks, not months. Somehow, it was the 35-year-old's first ever surgery. In his first season with the Rams, Weddle had 108 total tackles (69 solo) and four passes defensed over a full season. He clearly still has some juice left, but he has yet to make up his mind if he will return for another season in 2020. It'll depend on LA's plans for their secondary, as Weddle said he's not interested in being a backup. Weddle is still a productive safety in both pass and run defense, but it remains to be seen if he'll continue his career.

Eric Weddle Could Hang 'Em Up

Los Angeles Rams safety Eric Weddle is uncertain if he will continue his playing career into the 2020 season. He hasn't made an official decision, but he expects the Rams to move forward with younger safeties John Johnson and rookie Taylor Rapp. Weddle said he will not return in a backup role. The 34-year-old also that he will undergo shoulder and knee surgeries soon after battling injuries this season. He started 16 games in 2019 and finished with 108 tackles and three pass breakups.

Eric Weddle Busy In Week 4

Los Angeles Rams free safety Eric Weddle had 15 tackles (10 solo) and two pass defenses in Week 4 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Weddle has had six or seven total tackles in each of the three previous games, and he's a fringe starting option in individual defensive player formats.

Eric Weddle Cleared To Play For Rams Defense

Los Angeles Rams safety Eric Weddle (concussion) has been cleared to play in Week 2 against the Saints. Head coach Sean McVay said that linebackers Clay Matthews (back) and Michael Brockers (shoulder) are also probable to play Sunday. The Rams will need all the help they can get on defense to try and slow down Drew Brees and company in a rematch of last year's NFL Championship game. Even though this game is in Los Angeles, the Rams Defense/special teams unit isn't a recommended start against this high-flying offense.
