Fitzgerald Toussaint Signs One-Year Deal With Steelers
The Pittsburgh Steelers and running back Fitzgerald Toussaint have agreed to a one-year deal. The Steelers did not tender Toussaint, who was a restricted free agent, but they will bring him back to town to compete for a backup role. He will likely battle with second-year running back James Conner for second-string behind starter Le'Veon Bell. Toussaint has appeared in 31 games over his four-year career, rushing 44 times for 137 yards while adding eight catches for 69 yards.
The Pittsburgh Steelers shuffled reserve running backs on Saturday, releasing Terrell Watson and signing Fitzgerald Toussaint off their practice squad and onto the 53-man roster. Toussaint will operate as the team's No. 3 back behind starter Le'Veon Bell and rookie James Conner. Toussaint has appeared in 24 career games between the Steelers and Baltimore Ravens, posting 112 rushing yards on 38 carries. He won't be a fantasy factor unless something happens to both Bell and Conner.
Fitzgerald Toussaint Rejoins Steelers Practice Squad
A day after being released by the Pittsburgh Steelers, running back Fitzgerald Toussaint re-signed with the team as a practice squad member. The team praised Toussaint for his toughness after releasing him and it was always a possibility that he would land back with the team after clearing waivers. Toussaint rushed 14 times for 58 yards and added three catches for 33 yards in 2016. It is unlikely we see him with the Steelers this season unless the team suffers several backfield injuries.
Fitzgerald Toussaint, Cobi Hamilton Cut By Steelers
The Pittsburgh Steelers released running back Fitzgerald Toussaint and wide receiver Cobi Hamilton on Friday. Toussaint spent two seasons with the Steelers and perhaps will be most remembered for his lost fumble against the Denver Broncos during the 2015 playoffs. While Toussaint was released by the Steelers, the team praised his toughness and would like to resign him to the team's practice squad when he's eligible. Toussaint rushed 14 times for 58 yards and added three catches for 33 yards. Hamilton fell victim to a numbers crunch as the Steelers are extremely deep at the receiver position. Hamilton had 17 catches for 234 yards and two touchdowns in 2016.
Fitzgerald Toussaint Still In Play To Make Steelers RB Rotation
Mike Tomlin is a fan of what Fitzgerald Toussaint can bring to the Steelers offense, giving Fitz some hope to maintain a part of the game plan. Most assume James Conner will slide right into being Le'Veon Bell's complimentary piece but Toussaint is still the incumbent veteran. With Bell yet to report to camp, Toussaint will continue to get additional reps.
