The 49ers signed free-agent wide receiver Frank Darby on Saturday. He is set to receive a one-year deal. The Falcons selected the 26-year-old using the No. 187 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. In 15 games in Atlanta, Darby caught just two of his five targets for 29 yards. He also spent time with the practice squad. If Darby is on the field come Week 1, he'll likely spend most of his time on special teams, making him nearly irrelevant as a fantasy wideout. In a corresponding move, the 49ers waived cornerback Kemon Hall.
The Atlanta Falcons signed former sixth-round wide receiver Frank Darby from their practice squad to the active roster on Wednesday, according to his agents Drew and Jason Rosenhaus. This will be the third time that the Falcons have put Darby on the active roster heading into a Week 12 meeting against the Washington Commanders. Darby has yet to be targeted in his two games played for the Falcons in 2022, and he has one reception on four targets for 14 yards so far in two NFL seasons (12 games). The 25-year-old has played only 10 offensive snaps in the two games he's been active, so don't expect to see Darby much on Sunday against the Commanders. Darby remains well off the fantasy radar.
Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Frank Darby led the team with three targets and two catches during Friday's preseason opener against the Detroit Lions. He totaled 14 yards in the contest. The 24-year-old caught just one of four targets as a rookie in 2021 but should see an increase in opportunities this coming season now that Russell Gage has departed and Calvin Ridley is suspended. Assuming he makes the roster, he could realistically open as high as No. 4 on the depth chart.
With the 187th pick of the 2021 NFL Draft, the Atlanta Falcons have selected Arizona State wide receiver Frank Darby. Darby's path to snaps this year might depend on what happens with the Julio Jones trade rumors, as the Falcons with Jones don't seem like they'll have a lot of available snaps at receiver. Darby had just six catches for 46 yards and a touchdown last season in three games, but had a strong 2019 campaign, with 31 receptions for 616 yards and a team-high eight touchdowns. He has some nice speed on the outside and has shown an ability to make big plays. Right now, he's just a dynasty stash, but that could change before the 2021 season begins.
