Miami Dolphins tight end Gavin Escobar has been released to make room for the signing of center Travis Swanson. Escobar had no receptions in the Dolphins Week 1 matchup. The Dolphins now only have three healthy TEs on their roster, with tight end Mike Gesicki being the top pass-catcher. However, Gesicki remains a low-end option in single-year formats for now.
The Miami Dolphins are releasing tight end Gavin Escobar on Friday. Escobar was competing for a roster spot behind rookie Mike Gesicki, MarQueis Gray and AJ Derby. The former second-round pick of the Cowboys didn't play at all in the NFL in 2017.
The Miami Dolphins signed free-agent tight end Gavin Escobar to an undisclosed deal on Monday. Escobar was a former second-round pick by the Cowboys and was released by the Browns last week. He caught only 30 passes for 333 yards and eight touchdowns in his four years in Dallas, mainly backing up Jason Witten. Escobar is expected to compete with tight ends A.J. Derby, MarQueis Gray and Thomas Duarte in training camp. The team could also address the position in the draft, meaning Escobar's spot on the roster is definitely not guaranteed.
Gavin Escobar Among Seven Players Released By Browns
The Cleveland Browns parted ways with seven players on Thursday. They terminated the contract of tight end Gavin Escobar and waived running back Kelvin Taylor, wide receivers Bug Howard and Larry Pinkard, tight end Matt Lengel, and defensive players Max Bullough and C.J. Smith. Of the seven players, Escobar is the best known. He started his career with the Dallas Cowboys as a high-upside prospect but was never able to break out and was billed as the successor to Jason Witten at one point.
The Baltimore Ravens sign tight end Gavin Escobar in advance of Week 8. Escobar is a talented pass catcher who offers both downfield potential as well as a potential red-zone target. It remains to be seen if this will hurt Benjamin Watson but it would seem to be a bad sign for Maxx Williams (who did not practice Monday). If you are in a deep league with a need at tight end, he may end up with value at some point.
