Former Cincinnati Bengals and Minnesota Vikings safety George Iloka worked out for the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday with the idea that he could serve as a cover linebacker. Iloka hasn't played since tearing his ACL midway through the 2020 season, but he has been working towards a return to the NFL. The 32-year-old played in only four games with the Vikings before his devastating knee injury in 2020. He was originally drafted in the fifth round by the Bengals in 2012 out of Boise State. Iloka has 365 tackles (246 solo), 10 tackles for loss, three QB hits, nine interceptions, 32 passes defensed, three forced fumbles and one fumble recovery in 103 career games (79 starts) in his eight NFL seasons.
Minnesota Vikings veteran safety and special teams contributor George Iloka (knee) suffered a torn ACL in practice on Wednesday and will undergo season-ending surgery, according to a league source. Iloka was put on Injured Reserve on Thursday after just signing with the team in September. His injury leaves rookie Josh Metellus as the only safety on the active roster behind Harrison Smith and Anthony Harris. The 30-year-old Iloka had just six tackles (five solo) and one tackle for a loss in four games for Minnesota this season, but it's more bad news for a 1-5 Vikings whose defense ranks 28th in the league with 3.8 fantasy points per game.
The Dallas Cowboys signed free-agent safety George Iloka to an undisclosed one-year deal on Saturday, according to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo. The seven-year safety played the first six seasons of his career with the Bengals but disappointed with only 16 tackles in 16 games (three starts) for the Vikings in 2018. It's looking like Iloka will have a starting role with his new team in Dallas.
Free agent safety George Iloka is reportedly drawing interest from the Dallas Cowboys. The report specifies that the Cowboys would only be interested "at the right price," but a recent hamstring injury to Xavier Woods has created a sudden need at safety for Dallas. Iloka has been a successful starter for several years, but the Bengals released him likely due to his high salary and the fact that they spent a second-round pick on his replacement. Iloka has also drawn interest from the Oakland Raiders, and should land on a team soon.
The Cincinnati Bengals released safety George Iloka on Sunday. He had started every game he played in since 2013, and this was purely a financial decision, as he was due $5.3 million in salary and roster bonuses this year. Iloka's release is a good sign that rookie Jeremy Bates will enter a starting role.
Cincinnati Bengals free safety George Iloka got good news and bad news on Monday. The good news is he didn't suffer any ligament tears in his right knee, instead being diagnosed with a sprain. The bad news is the sprain in his knee will keep him out of action for the next 3-4 weeks, most likely meaning he will miss the rest of the preseason. Iloka went down without any contact during practice on Sunday while in pass coverage and remained on the field for several moments before sitting out the rest of practice. Iloka has been with the Bengals since they drafted him in 2012 and had 74 total tackles, seven passes defended, and three interceptions in 2016.
George Iloka Goes Down With Non-Contact Knee Injury
