The Philadelphia Eagles released cornerback Greedy Williams on Saturday. Williams was originally a second-round selection by the Cleveland Browns in 2019 out of Louisiana State. In three seasons with the Browns, he had 99 tackles (78 solo), two interceptions, 12 passes defensed and a forced fumble in 39 games (21 starts). The 25-year-old played in just 11 games (one start) for Cleveland last year and finished with 11 tackles (six solo). He apparently didn't do enough in training camp and the first two preseason games in Philadelphia to earn a roster spot heading into the 2023 campaign, so he'll hope to latch on with another team quickly to provide secondary depth.
According to Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer, free-agent cornerback Greedy Williams has agreed to join the Eagles. The 2019 second-round pick totaled 99 tackles and two interceptions during the last four seasons in Cleveland. However, he's battled countless injuries over the years, including missing the entire 2020-21 campaign because of a shoulder injury. With that said, Philadelphia is retaining Darius Slay and James Bradberry, so Williams will have a tough time finding consistent work, even if he stays healthy.
Browns Activate Greedy Williams From Injured Reserve
The Cleveland Browns activated cornerback Greedy Williams (hamstring) from Injured Reserve on Saturday, and he he's expected be active for his season debut in the Week 6 contest against the New England Patriots. And with Denzel Ward (concussion) out, Williams should start this Sunday. It's a boost for a Browns secondary that has allowed 215.6 passing yards per game through five weeks. The Browns defense is allowing 25.0 points per game. The 24-year-old will return to action after recording 41 tackles (35 solo), two interceptions, 10 passes defensed and a forced fumble in 16 games (eight starts) in his second NFL season in 2021.
Cleveland Browns cornerback Greedy Williams (hamstring) has been placed on the Injured Reserve list and will miss a minimum of four games. Following Williams' move to IR, the team signed cornerback Herb Miller off the practice squad to the active roster on Friday. Williams played in 16 games during the 2021 season, putting up 40 tackles and two interceptions in that span. Denzel Ward and Greg Newsome II will lead the Browns' cornerback room, as A.J. Green and Martin Emerson Jr. play behind them in the absence of their second-round pick from 2019.
Greedy Williams, Sione Takitaki Ruled Out Against Steelers
Cleveland Browns cornerback Greedy Williams (shoulder) and linebacker Sione Takitaki (shoulder) have both been ruled out for the rest of Monday night's game against the division-rival Pittsburgh Steelers. Cornerback Denzel Ward (groin) is also questionable to return to the second half with a groin injury. An already short-handed Browns secondary could be down two more players for the rest of this game. Cleveland's defense has done a good job of keeping them in the game on the road, but the Browns offense just hasn't been able to move the ball at all in this one. Even with a lead in the second half, Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger could continue attacking the Browns depleted secondary in what is expected to be his final home game.
Cleveland Browns cornerback Greedy Williams (shoulder) is questionable to return to the Monday night game due to a shoulder injury. The 24-year-old was injured in the first half of the game. Safety Grant Delpit went down with a knee injury shortly after, but thankfully for the Browns secondary, he was able to return. Cleveland is already short-handed in their secondary, so Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, who threw the ball over 30 times in the first half, could continue to attack the Browns through the air in the second half if Williams is unable to return.
Greedy Williams Leaves Preseason Game With Groin Injury
Cleveland Browns defensive back Greedy Williams left his team's preseason game against the New York Giants on Sunday with a groin injury. Williams started the game across from rookie Greg Newsome II but left during the first quarter with the injury and did not return. The team turned to reserve cornerback AJ Green on the outside to replace Williams. It is just another injury for Williams, who missed the entire 2020 season with a nerve issue. The Browns are hoping to have Denzel Ward, Williams, and Newsome as their top three outside corners to open the season but Williams will need to shake the injury bug.
Cleveland Browns cornerback Greedy Williams (shoulder) is being placed on Injured Reserve on Monday and is out indefinitely with a nerve issue in his shoulder, according to head coach Kevin Stefanski. Williams won't need surgery, though, and he could return at some point this season. At the very minimum, the 22-year-old will have to miss three weeks. Williams hasn't played at all this year because of his injury, and Terrance Mitchell should continue to serve as his replacement in Cleveland's secondary.
Browns Defense To Be Without Greedy Williams, Mack Wilson
Cleveland Browns cornerbacks Greedy Williams (shoulder) and Kevin Johnson (liver) and linebacker Mack Wilson (knee) have been ruled out for Week 1 against the Ravens. Cleveland's secondary is short-handed with Williams and Johnson sidelined and rookie safety Grant Delpit on Injured Reserve. That's not a good combination with Lamar Jackson and the explosive Ravens offense on the docket for the regular season opener on Sunday. Don't be surprised if Jackson connects on some deep balls in Week 1. The Browns Defense should be avoided for fantasy purposes to kick off the season.
Greedy Williams Still Dealing With Shoulder Injury
Cleveland Browns cornerback Greedy Williams (shoulder) is not practicing on Thursday. Williams has been sidelined with a shoulder injury since the middle of August and his status for Cleveland's Week 1 showdown against the Baltimore Ravens is looking shaky. The likely absence of Williams is going to be a big problem for the Browns as it leaves Denzel Ward and not much else as they attempt to slow a Baltimore offense that was one of the best in the league in 2019. Fantasy gamers are going to want to upgrade the Baltimore passing attack and further downgrade the Cleveland D/ST for this weekend.
