Isaiah Wynn News
The New England Patriots have talked to other teams about offensive tackle Isaiah Wynn, the team's first-round pick from 2018. Wynn is on a $10.4 million fifth-year option and he's still seen as a tackle/guard tweener. The Patriots are really tight to the salary cap, and SI.com's Albert Breer's sense is they'd like to use a surplus at one position to alleviate their cap situation and perhaps pick up a draft pick or two. There's also been trade speculation on wide receiver Nelson Agholor, but his big number ($9 million base salary) makes him harder to trade. He's also had a strong training camp this summer and has emerged as a leader in the locker room, so it seems unlikely he'll be dealt. If a receiver is traded, the better bet now is Kendrick Bourne, who will make $3.75 million in 2022.
The New England Patriots have been experimenting with offensive tackle Isaiah Wynn this offseason by moving him from left to right tackle. He was at right tackle for the entirety of mandatory minicamp, which is a pretty big surprise considering he hasn't taken snaps at the position since his rookie season, and he didn't play there in college either. Trent Brown has taken over on quarterback Mac Jones' blind side. All signs are pointing to this move becoming official in training camp at the end of July. The 26-year-old was the 23rd overall selection in the first round of the 2018 NFL draft by the Patriots out of Georgia. He played just 18 games in his first two years in the league before playing 16 games (15 starts) in 2021.
New England Patriots left tackle Isaiah Wynn, who didn't take part in the team's voluntary organized team activities, is at the team's facilities on Monday and will be present for mandatory minicamp this week. Wynn will be playing the 2022 season on his fifth-year option that will pay him $10.4 million. The former first-round pick started a career-high 15 games last year but struggled in pass protection, allowing 28 QB pressures and six sacks. He's expected to open the season as quarterback Mac Jones' blind-side protector, but Wynn will need to be better in his third NFL season.
