Isaiah Wynn News
New England Patriots left tackle Isaiah Wynn (ankle, hip) has been downgraded from questionable to out for Saturday's wild-card game against the division-rival Buffalo Bills. Wynn missed practice all week after playing only nine snaps in the Week 18 regular season finale against the Miami Dolphins. The 2018 first-round pick started 15 games and played 82% of the offensive snaps as rookie quarterback Mac Jones' blind-side protector. Last week, the Patriots put 2020 sixth-rounder Justin Herron at left tackle to replace the injured Wynn. Herron started only four games this year and played 35% of the snaps, but he took a step forward in 2021. New England could also move eight-year veteran Trent Brown from right to left tackle and insert 2020 sixth-rounder Mike Onwenu at right tackle.
New England Patriots offensive tackle Isaiah Wynn (hip, ankle) is listed as questionable for Saturday's Wild Card game against the Buffalo Bills. He started the week with limited practice, but has missed both Wednesday and Thursday's sessions. Wynn appears to be a legitimate game-time decision for Saturday's game. Justin Herron took over for Wynn during the regular season finale. The second-year player figures to get the start if Wynn is unable to play. Herron saw significant action in the first half of the season, but was barely seen in the second half. It'll be interesting to see if he can take on a full workload if Wynn is unable to play.
The New England Patriots placed offensive linemen Isaiah Wynn and Michael Onwenu on the Reserve/COVID-19 list on Tuesday. Both players will need two negative tests this week to have a chance at suiting up in Week 5 against the Houston Texans. Wynn is the team's starting left tackle, while Onwenu is the starting left guard, so New England's left side of the offensive line could be compromised this weekend. However, it may not matter as much on Sunday against the Texans and a defense that has just seven sacks through four games, which is tied for 23rd in the NFL. Rookie quarterback Mac Jones isn't exactly a QB1 streamer against Houston, but he has some upside as a QB2 after he went toe-to-toe with Tom Brady last Sunday night.
