The Los Angeles Rams cut tight end Jacob Harris on Tuesday, according to a league source. Harris was battling a groin injury early in training camp, but he played in the team's last two preseason games and caught five passes for 27 yards. He didn't do enough to impress the coaching staff heading into his second NFL season. Harris was a fourth-round selection last year, but he didn't have a single target in nine games in 2021 while playing just 15 offensive snaps. Los Angeles will move forward with only Tyler Higbee and Brycen Hopkins on their tight end depth chart.
Los Angeles Rams tight end Jacob Harris (knee) is making the transition from tight end to wide receiver in training camp this year after recovering from a torn ACL and MCL. Harris was drafted with a hybrid designation and spent his rookie year with the tight ends. The fourth-rounder is 6-foot-6 with a massive frame and wingspan. "That's one of the reasons he's here, he's a weapon," receivers coach Eric Yarber said. "You can't teach speed and size." The 25-year-old played just 15 offensive snaps in nine games for the Rams this year and remains a raw offensive weapon for the Rams, leaving him well off the fantasy radar for now.
Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay said that rookie wide receiver/tight end Jacob Harris (knee) injured his ACL and MCL in the Sunday night loss to the Tennessee Titans and will need season-ending surgery. It's a blow for the team's depth at the position. With Harris out of the fold the rest of the way, Brycen Hopkins and Kendall Blanton will now be the primary backups to starter Tyler Higbee. Harris was mostly used on special teams in the first nine games of his career, playing just 15 offensive snaps over two games while not seeing a single target from quarterback Matthew Stafford. The 24-year-old was a fourth-round pick by the Rams this spring out of Western Kentucky.
Los Angeles Rams tight end Jacob Harris has been one of the more interesting stories during the preseason across the league. He doesn't have the speed to be a wide receiver, and he's not quite big enough to be a pure tight end. However, he has shown the flashes to be a mismatch creator for the Rams' offense. Outside of teammate Tyler Higbee, the Rams don't have any proven producers at the tight end position which has left the door open for a guy like Harris to make plays if given the opportunity. He's worth nothing more than keeping an eye on him at this point as he's still the fourth-string tight end, but it will only take one injury to one of the team's pass-catchers for him to become a hot commodity.
Los Angeles Rams tight end Jacob Harris has been an exciting story in camp, but he ended his preseason on a bit of a downswing as he failed to haul in any of his three targets against the Denver Broncos. At 6'5" and 219 pounds, Harris has a great combination of size and athleticism, but he's competing for targets in a loaded pass-catchers room. Harris is the type of player that could be a late-season breakout if he gains chemistry with starting quarterback Matthew Stafford, but there is no guarantee he has any fantasy relevance. Unless your league is exceptionally deep, he's not worth investing a roster spot at this stage.
Los Angeles Rams tight end Jacob Harris will be held out of practice for the next couple of weeks after undergoing a procedure for a core injury. While it doesn't sound like the injury will impact Harris' availability for the regular season, he'll be missing valuable practice time, which is especially important as Harris is a rookie who is converting to tight end. He already wasn't on any fantasy radars, but this news pushes him even farther down the rankings.
Los Angeles Rams rookie tight end Jacob Harris, a fourth-rounder out of Central Florida, received significant repetitions throughout voluntary and minicamp practices because Tyler Higbee was sidelined for the offseason program. "Jacob Harris is a guy who has definitely stood out," head coach Sean McVay said. "Just his overall speed, athleticism, you kind of feel him on the field." The 6-foot-5, 211-pounder must be evaluated outside of 7-on-7 drills, but the former receiver in college has shown improvement since joining the team. Harris will compete with second-year pro Bryce Hopkins and Johnny Mundt for playing time in 2021 behind Higbee. He is athletic and big and can create mismatches, but he'll likely take time to develop, therefore Harris is unlikely to have any fantasy value in 2021. But he's one to watch.
With the 141st pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, the Los Angeles Rams have drafted UCF wide receiver/tight end Jacob Harris. Regardless of what position Harris sticks at in the NFL, the Rams are a tough spot for him to find minutes, as they already took Louisville receiver Tutu Atwell in the second, plus have Robert Woods and Cooper Kupp at receiver and Tyler Higbee at tight end. Harris is an athletic player who played a lot of snaps in the slot in college. He also didn't have a lot of experience playing football before the past two years and is already on the older side, so seeing how he develops will be interesting.
