Jake Luton Signed To Saints' 53-Man Roster Tuesday
The New Orleans Saints signed quarterback Jake Luton to their 53-man roster from their practice squad on Tuesday. Luton's signing is a good indication that the team is preparing to be without starting quarterback Derek Carr (shoulder) for the near future. Luton will serve as the team's backup QB while Jameis Winston runs the offense in Week 4 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Fantasy managers relying on Carr should be making alternate plans at the quarterback position heading into this weekend.
Jake Luton Elevated From The Practice Squad Ahead Of Week 3
Carolina Panthers quarterback Jake Luton has been elevated from the practice squad ahead of the team's Week 3 contest against the Seattle Seahawks. This move makes sense with rookie starter Bryce Young (ankle) being ruled out from this game. Veteran QB Andy Dalton will start under center and Luton will back him up on Sunday. The Seahawks D/ST was a popular streaming option before Young was ruled out but should see even more of a roster increase with Dalton starting.
The Panthers waived quarterback Jake Luton on Saturday. The 2020 sixth-round pick has appeared in only three regular season games throughout his career, all with the Jaguars, before trying to earn a spot with the Seahawks, Dolphins, and Saints through the years. Luton went 8-for-19 for 115 yards, one touchdown, and one interception this preseason. However, he completed only 42.1% of his throws. Carolina has Bryce Young, Andy Dalton, and Matt Corral on the depth chart, so Luton needed a miracle to make the team, even if he had played better. But the former Oregon State Beaver is back to looking for a new team, although he isn't expected to be worth anything to fantasy managers anytime soon, if ever.
Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Jake Luton will start during Thursday's Hall of Fame Game versus Las Vegas. Trevor Lawrence won't see any action in the preseason bout, and backup C.J. Beathard (groin) has been limited throughout training camp. As a result, Luton will get some reps, with Kyle Sloter also in line to see the field. As a result, there is room for the duo in single-game DFS contests. While Luton may get more snaps, both should be motivated as they look to cement their place on the regular season roster.
The Seattle Seahawks waived quarterback Jake Luton on Tuesday. Luton had been inactive in all three games this season. Veteran Geno Smith will now be the lone option backing up Russell Wilson, although it's certainly possible that Luton is brought back to be a member of the practice squad. Luton played in three games for the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2020 and threw six interceptions with one touchdown. He can remain avoided in all formats.
Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Jake Luton was 16-for-37 for 151 yards and four interceptions during the loss to Pittsburgh in Week 11. The rookie wasn't able to get anything going and fell victim to an overwhelming Steelers Defense that was just too much to handle. The 24-year-old has now thrown two touchdowns and six interceptions while filling in for Gardner Minshew II (thumb), and unless he turns things around, he should remain out of fantasy lineups in all formats.
Jacksonville Jaguars rookie quarterback Jake Luton could theoretically get some garbage time numbers on Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers, but it's really hard to trust the first-year passer against a defense allowing the fifth-fewest fantasy points per game to opposing quarterbacks. Luton has had one good and one bad game in his two starts, including completing just 51.43 percent of his passes against Green Bay last time out. He's a low-end QB2 play at best.
Jake Luton To Start Sunday, Gardner Minshew Out Again
Jacksonville Jaguars rookie quarterback Jake Luton will make his third start in Week 11 against the undefeated Steelers while Gardner Minshew II (thumb) resumes throwing. Luton went 18-for-35 for 169 yards, one touchdown and one interception in the Week 10 loss to the Packers. Jacksonville isn't putting too much on the 24-year-old's plate and is using him like a game manager with Minshew sidelined. Minshew won't be guaranteed the starting job back when he's healthy, but Luton hasn't really stood out so far in his first two NFL starts. Pittsburgh boasts one of the most fearsome defenses in the league, so we don't expect Luton to put up impressive numbers this weekend. He'll be a desperation QB2 in superflex leagues.
Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Jake Luton went for 169 yards and a touchdown (one interception) on 18-for-25 passing during the narrow loss to the Packers in Week 10. The rookie, who filled in once again for the injured Gardner Minshew II (thumb), had a respectable outing on Sunday against one of the best teams in the league. With two touchdowns, two picks, and nearly 500 yards passing throughout his first two games as a professional, Luton is expected to retain his fantasy value moving forward in deeper, multi-quarterback formats until Minshew can return to his role as the starting signal-caller.
Jake Luton Should Probably Not Be On The Fantasy Radar
It's tough to know what to read into Jacksonville Jaguars rookie quarterback Jake Luton's first NFL start. His second pass of the game was a long touchdown, but it was also his only touchdown pass of the day, and he also threw an interception. With the Packers on deck Sunday and currently ranking sixth in the NFL in fewest fantasy points allowed to quarterbacks, it's probably a good idea to steer away from Luton as anything but a contrarian tournament play in DFS.
