Jamaal Williams News
The New Orleans Saints and former Detroit Lions running back Jamaal Williams agreed to a three-year deal on Wednesday, according to a source. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Williams led the NFL with 17 rushing touchdowns last year in Detroit, adding his first 1,000-yard season on a career-high 262 carries. He also added 12 catches for an additional 73 yards. The addition of Williams is very bad news for Alvin Kamara, whose fantasy stock was already shaky with a potential suspension looming in 2023 for off-the-field conduct. Kamara could still be useful in PPR leagues, but he's surely no longer an outright RB1 for fantasy managers. Williams should also be expected to see plenty of regression with his new club, especially in the TD department.
There is mutual interest in the Detroit Lions re-signing Jamaal Williams, but the Buffalo Bills, Cincinnati Bengals and New York Jets are all very interested in him as well, according to a source. It's obvious as to why there is a lot of interest in Williams in free agency. The 27-year-old led the NFL with 17 rushing touchdowns in 2022 and also had a career-high 1,066 rushing yards in 17 games for Detroit. The Lions are the favorites to retain him, where he'll arguably have the most fantasy value with D'Andre Swift unable to stay healthy. Fantasy managers can't expect Williams to go off in the touchdown department in 2023, but he should continue to have a big role if he remains in Motown.
Detroit Lions general manager Brad Holmes said there is mutual interest between the team and impending free-agent running back Jamaal Williams in a reunion this offseason, and the two sides have had ongoing discussions. Williams will become an unrestricted free agent on March 15, and the Lions would like him back after he led the NFL with 17 rushing touchdowns in 2022. He also contributed a career-high 1,066 yards on 262 carries over 17 games in his second year in Detroit. The 27-year-old really stepped up for the Lions with D'Andre Swift missing more time with injury. There will be no shortage of suitors for Williams on the open market, and a return to Detroit in 2023 would be more bad news for Swift's falling fantasy stock.
