New York Jets quarterback James Morgan was released by the organization on Tuesday. Both Morgan and veteran Josh Johnson were cut in order to finalize the 53-man roster. However, Johnson was brought back on the practice squad, but Morgan's time in New York is over. The former fourth-round pick will head to the Carolina Panthers on Wednesday. Morgan was added to their practice squad, but don't expect much from him. Maybe, the Panthers believe it'll be a benefit to have Sam Darnold and Morgan together since they were teammates last season. Who knows, but Morgan isn't likely to see any action during the regular season.
New York Jets quarterback James Morgan saw a majority of the snaps under center during Friday's preseason finale with the Philadelphia Eagles. The Jets decided to have rookie Zach Wilson sit out, so it was all up to the backup quarterbacks in this one. Morgan completed 13-of-23 attempts, 158 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception in what ended up being a tie. It was a fairly nice outing for Morgan, but he doesn't have any chance of being the starter. The Jets are going to start the No. 2 overall pick in Wilson to begin the season. Morgan has made a strong case for backup role, but that won't come with any fantasy value.
Despite New York Jets head coach Adam Gase all but saying that 2020 fourth-round pick James Morgan is essentially getting a redshirt year as a rookie, the organization made the call Monday to release quarterback Mike White, who had been serving as Joe Flacco's backup. While Sam Darnold (shoulder) continues to battle injuries, Morgan may now slot into the backup role without White on the roster. New York's quarterback situation continues to remain fluid, but Morgan could get a look in the final weeks of the year if the team's losing woes continue and Darnold remains embattled with his shoulder injury. White, who has not yet thrown an NFL pass, will be looking for a new home prior to the conclusion of the year.
