Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver John Hightower made just one catch in Sunday's preseason game against the New Orleans Saints despite leading the team in targets with six. Hightower's one catch was for a 10 yard gain. Hightower has received some hype based on strong practice performances, but he was a non-factor in game action and is deeply buried on the depth chart. He's unlikely to be a fantasy option at all in 2023.
John Hightower Making A Case For Chargers 53-Man Roster
Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver John Hightower has hauled in just 10 passes for 167 yards and no touchdowns since entering the NFL in 2020, but he is reportedly gaining steam to make the Chargers' 53-man roster with an impressive showing at training camp. "The most surprising performer in Chargers camp has been receiver John Hightower and it has not really been close," Daniel Popper of the Athletic wrote. "Hightower entered this spring and summer as a relative afterthought in a loaded Chargers receiver room that includes Keenan Allen, Mike Williams, Joshua Palmer, and rookie first-round pick Quentin Johnston." Hightower trails only Keenan Allen in receptions and leads all Chargers wide receivers in touchdowns during team drills. The 27-year-old won't be on the fantasy radar right away if he does make the team, but he could be sprung into action at some point in 2023 as Allen and Williams have had plenty of injury woes in their careers.
Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver John Hightower caught five of six targets for 52 yards during Saturday's 48-10 preseason loss to the Miami Dolphins. The third-year receiver did not have the most targets, that honor when to teammate Deon Cain, but he did have the most receptions of the Eagles' backups. After not recording a target in the first preseason game, Hightower followed up a lackluster one-reception performance last week with a solid outing Saturday. Hightower's top competition for a roster spot seems to be Cain, and even after a solid game, he is likely on the outside looking in right now. The 26-year-old should resurface on the Eagles practice squad if he is cut and carries no fantasy relevance in redraft or dynasty formats.
The Philadelphia Eagles have released wide receiver John Hightower on Tuesday. Hightower, along with Travis Fulgham, were both released on Tuesday. The Eagles will roll with DeVonta Smith, Jalen Reagor, Greg Ward, and J.J. Arcega-Whiteside as the team's wide receivers. Hightower caught 10 passes on 29 targets for 167 yards over 13 games for the Eagles in 2020. The 25-year-old will look to latch onto another franchise. Hightower is not on the fantasy radar in 2021.
J.J. Arcega-Whiteside, John Hightower Put On COVID-19 List
Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver J.J. Arcega-Whiteside tested positive for COVID-19 and has been placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list. He will miss the team's Week 11 game against the Browns. Rookie receiver John Hightower and wideout Deontay Burnett are also going on the COVID-19 list as high-risk close contacts. It's a big blow to Philly's offense, although Arcega-Whiteside was a healthy scratch last week and has just two catches on five targets in seven games this season. Hightower has nine receptions for 166 yards in nine games as an occasional deep threat. Rookie Jalen Reagor and Travis Fulgham should remain Philly's top pass-catchers, with Greg Ward Jr. and Alshon Jeffery working behind them.
Philadelphia Eagles rookie wide receiver John Hightower is not a strong fantasy option in any Week 10 lineups. Hightower has settled into a role as a field stretching deep threat, but will fall even further on the depth chart with the expected return on Alshon Jeffery (calf) in Week 10. Hightower played on just 16% of the team's offensive snaps in Week 8, and could end up somewhere in that range again despite a good matchup against the Giants Defense in Week 10. Hightower is worth hanging onto in dynasty leagues, but he can be left on the wire in most redraft formats.
Philadelphia Eagles rookie wide receiver John Hightower came up empty on the stat sheet in Week 8, failing to record a catch on three targets. Hightower is developing into a boom-or-bust low volume deep threat who has had far more busts and is still waiting for a huge boom. With Carson Wentz struggling to throw accurate deep balls, Hightower is almost impossible to put into any fantasy lineups outside of best ball leagues.
Philadelphia Eagles rookie wide receiver John Hightower is not a reliable option for any Week 8 fantasy lineups. Hightower has caught a few deep passes this season, but he's not seeing anywhere near consistent enough targets to be worth starting in almost any format. He's a zero-floor big play threat who has caught nine passes on 21 targets for 166 scoreless yards so far this season. He's shown glimpses of upside which certainly make him worth rostering in dynasty and keeper formats, but he can stay on the wire for now in most redraft leagues.
Philadelphia Eagles rookie wide receiver John Hightower only made one catch in Week 7, but he gained 59 yards on it and helped set up the Eagles for a comeback victory over the New York Giants. Hightower was targeted twice, both coming in the fourth quarter of the game. He looks like he's settling into a low-volume deep threat role, making him unreliable in most fantasy formats despite his potential for high-scoring individual plays. He's a worthwhile investment in best-ball formats but not a strong head-to-head or points league play yet.
Philadelphia Eagles rookie wide receiver John Hightower was targeted four times in Week 6, catching just one pass but gaining 50 yards. Hightower's four targets was second most among Eagles wide receivers, but fell way behind Travis Fulgham and tight end Zach Ertz's 10. Hightower is looking like he will settle into a boom-or-bust role, coming up with deep passes somewhat inconsistently. He'll have a smaller role when (or if) the Eagles wide receivers ever get healthy.
