John Wolford News
Los Angeles Rams quarterback Jared Goff has 45 wins since 2017 (second-most behind Tom Brady), but he was wildly inconsistent in 2020, and the Rams are expected to have an open quarterback competition between Goff and John Wolford during training camp this summer, according to sources. Wolford was much more mobile and added a new dynamic to LA's offense late in the regular season when Goff's thumb was injured, so they will give him another chance to impress this summer. If Goff isn't traded and remains with the Rams, he'll have to show more explosiveness and limit the turnovers in order to keep his starting job. The former first overall pick had his moments in 2020, but he just wasn't consistent enough for fantasy managers and did very little with his legs. If he wins the job in training camp, he'll be a middling QB2 target in fantasy drafts.
Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay has ruled quarterback John Wolford (neck) out for the Divisional Round game against the Packers on Saturday. Wolford hasn't practiced this week after suffering a stinger in the wild-card game against the Seahawks and having to be taken to the hospital. Jared Goff (thumb) will make the start against Green Bay, with Blake Bortles backing him up. Goff didn't start last weekend after having surgery to fix a broken and dislocated thumb that he suffered in Week 16. The Rams didn't ask too much of him, as he went just 9-for-19 for 155 yards and a touchdown after he replaced Wolford in the first quarter. Goff has been practicing in full this week but is unlikely to be 100 percent against a Packers Defense that allowed the third-fewest fantasy points per game to QBs during the regular season. Goff will be the shakiest fantasy signal-caller this weekend.
Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp (knee) and quarterback John Wolford (neck) both missed practice on Wednesday. Kupp also sat out of the walk-through on Tuesday. He's reportedly just dealing with bursitis in his knee, but it's something to watch as we approach Saturday's Divisional Round contest against the Packers. He'll need to get in at least a limited practice on Thursday for fantasy managers to feel comfortable using him in their lineups. Even if he's active, Kupp will have a much lower floor and ceiling with quarterback Jared Goff (thumb) also injured. Rookie Van Jefferson and Josh Reynolds could see an uptick in usage if Kupp is limited or out against Green Bay. Wolford started the wild-card win over the Seahawks but didn't make it out of the first quarter. If he's active, he's expected to back up Goff this weekend. If Wolford can't go, Blake Bortles would back up Goff.
