Buccaneers Agree To Terms With John Wolford

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers agreed to terms on an undisclosed deal with free-agent quarterback John Wolford, according to Buccaneers general manager Jason Licht. Wolford will return to Tampa after spending the end of last season on the team's practice squad. The 28-year-old didn't actually appear in a game in the NFL in 2023. The Wake Forest alum entered the league in 2020 with the Los Angeles Rams and has appeared in all seven of his games (four starts) in LA. Over that time, he's gone 61-for-104 (58.7 completion percentage) for 626 yards, one touchdown and five interceptions. Wolford will strictly operate as quarterback depth for the Bucs in 2024 behind starter Baker Mayfield and backup Kyle Trask.

Bucs To Sign John Wolford To Active Roster

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will sign quarterback John Wolford from their practice squad to the active roster on Tuesday. The move comes after the Los Angeles Rams tried to pluck Wolford off Tampa's practice squad on Monday because of a right-thumb injury that quarterback Matthew Stafford suffered in the Week 8 loss to the Dallas Cowboys. The Minnesota Vikings might also be interested after just losing Kirk Cousins for the season due to a torn Achilles. Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell has experience with Wolford from their time together with the Rams. Wolford's four regular-season start in his career came with the Rams and he spent the last three years with the team. The 28-year-old signal-caller will continue to back up Baker Mayfield and Kyle Trask in Tampa.

John Wolford Staying In Tampa

Updating a previous report, the Los Angeles Rams were intending to sign quarterback John Wolford off of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers practice squad but they were informed Wolford will now be staying in Tampa. The Rams are looking for QB depth behind Brett Rypien with Matthew Stafford (thumb) day-to-day with a UCL sprain in his right thumb that he suffered in the Week 8 loss to the Dallas Cowboys. It made sense for the Rams to reunite with the 28-year-old Wolford since he played for the team the last three years, but that won't be happening now. The Rams have a bye in Week 10, so it would not be surprising to see them hold Stafford out this Sunday in Green Bay against the Packers.

Rams Expected To Sign John Wolford

The Los Angeles Rams are expected to sign quarterback John Wolford off the Tampa Bay Buccaneers practice squad, according to sources. Wolford spent the last three seasons with the Rams, so it would be a reunion with the Rams in need of QB depth after Matthew Stafford's thumb injury in the Week 8 loss to the Dallas Cowboys. The 28-year-old is unlikely to see any real playing time, as Brett Rypien would be the likely starter in Week 9 against the Green Bay Packers if Stafford is ruled out with a UCL sprain in his right thumb. Wolford completed only 58.7 percent of his 104 pass attempts for 626 yards, one touchdown and five interceptions in seven games (four starts) for the Rams since 2020.

Buccaneers Release John Wolford

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers released quarterback John Wolford on Monday. The Buccaneers already named Baker Mayfield as the starter at QB heading into the 2023 regular season, while Kyle Trask will serve as his backup to kick things off. With no other signal-callers on the roster, Wolford will be a candidate to return to Tampa on their practice squad. The 27-year-old former undrafted free agent out of Wake Forest spent the first three seasons of his NFL career playing for the Los Angeles Rams. In those three years, he went 61-for-104 for 626 yards, only one touchdown pass and five interceptions in seven games (four starts).

John Wolford "Feeling Better"

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback John Wolford (neck) is "feeling better," according to head coach Todd Bowles. "He's moving around, so, you know, that's the best we can offer right now. The tests came out pretty good. We'll just see how he recovers." The signal-caller, who signed with the Bucs in May after playing most of his career with the Rams, sustained a neck injury during Saturday's preseason meeting with the New York Jets. But considering this isn't the first neck injury of Wolford's career, the team will likely have a better idea of his condition soon while taking things slow in the process.

John Wolford Suffers Injury On Saturday

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback John Wolford (neck) was forced to exit early during Saturday's preseason matchup against the New York Jets. Wolford was called upon to take over the quarterback duties after Kyle Trask played the entire first half. Sadly, the 27-year-old suffered a neck injury when he had his helmet driven to the ground on a sack. Wolford was placed on a backboard and carted off the field. It sounds like he still has all his movements, so hopefully it was only a minor injury. The Bucs should give another update on his status shortly.

Buccaneers Sign John Wolford To QB Room

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed free-agent quarterback John Wolford to an undisclosed deal on Tuesday. Wolford will battle for a backup role in Tampa after spending the last three years as a backup for the Los Angeles Rams. In those three seasons, he played in only seven games (four starts) and completed 58.7 percent of his passes for 626 yards, one touchdown and five interceptions. The Bucs will have a quarterback competition at training camp this summer between Baker Mayfield and Kyle Trask, so Wolford is set to serve as the No. 3 signal-caller in 2023 in his new home. The 27-year-old QB isn't anywhere near the fantasy radar.

John Wolford Removed From Injury Report

Los Angeles Rams quarterback John Wolford (neck) wasn't listed on the team's first injury report of Week 18 on Wednesday. The 27-year-old hasn't practiced and missed the last three weeks due to a neck injury. He is trending in the right direction toward suiting up for Sunday's game against the Seahawks. The Wake Forest product will be the backup to Rams starting quarterback Baker Mayfield for Week 18. Wolford has thrown for 390 yards, one touchdown, and three interceptions across three games in 2022 while filling in for the injured Matthew Stafford (neck).

John Wolford Declared Out For Week 16

Los Angeles Rams quarterback John Wolford (neck) has been ruled out for a Week 16 matchup against the Denver Broncos. Wolford last suited up in Week 13, playing the first drive before ceding the rest of the game to newcomer Baker Mayfield. With Wolford inactive, Bryce Perkins will serve as the backup to Mayfield on Sunday as the former first-overall pick will start a second consecutive contest for the Rams.
