The Miami Dolphins signed running back Jordan Scarlett to a futures deal on Monday, according to his agent. Scarlett played his college ball at the University of Florida, so he'll be returning home after also attending high school in Florida. The 24-year-old was a fifth-round draft pick of the Carolina Panthers in 2019, but he saw just four carries for nine yards in nine games for the team in his rookie season and didn't play at all in 2020. Miami's backfield was led by Myles Gaskin in 2020, but they also had impressive rookie Salvon Ahmed in the mix. Matt Breida and DeAndre Washington will be free agents, while Patrick Laird has one more year left on his current deal. Scarlett will just be hoping to stick around into the 2021 season, possibly on the team's practice squad.
The Carolina Panthers placed rookie running back Jordan Scarlett (knee) on Injured Reserve on Friday and signed offensive lineman Brad Lundblade to the active roster from the practice squad in a corresponding move. Scarlett, a fifth-round pick, only had four carries for nine yards on Oct. 27 against the 49ers for his only action in his rookie season. With Christian McCaffrey locked in as the bell-cow back for this offense for years to come, it'll be an uphill battle for Scarlett to see much playing time unless there's an injury. Reggie Bonnafon will be the handcuff for McCaffrey owners the rest of the way.
