The New York Giants waived wide receiver/kick returner Kaelin Clay on Tuesday in order to make room for tight end Garrett Dickerson on the active roster, according to a source. Clay was more of a special teams asset and didn't have a single catch for the Giants in two games.
Buffalo Bills wide receivers Kaelin Clay (ribs) and Cam Phillips (groin) were both injured in practice on Friday. Neither wide receiver should be on anyone's fantasy radar. Clay has just six catches in one season played in the NFL since being drafted in 2015, while Phillips is an undrafted rookie that is just hoping to make the roster out of training camp. It's unknown how serious either injury is.
Free-agent wide receiver Kaelin Clay is signing an undisclosed deal with the Buffalo Bills on Thursday. Clay played in four games with the Bills in 2017 before landing with the Panthers, where he had five catches for 57 yards in nine games. The former sixth-rounder in 2015 has just six catches in his career and has been more of a return man in his two NFL seasons. He'll strictly be receiver depth for a Buffalo team that only has A.J. McCarron under center right now.
The Panthers have claimed wide receiver Kaelin Clay off waivers from the Bills, per panthers.com. Clay was traded to the Bills around cut-down time of training camp for cornerback Kevon Seymour. The move works out pretty well for the Panthers. Seymour has played a role in the Panthers secondary this season and Clay rejoins the team and adds depth to a wide receiving corps that is thinning from injuries. Clay's value mostly can be found on special teams but he did make his first career reception Week 3 for the Bills. It is only reception to date and would only see opportunities on offense if the unit suffered multiple injuries.
