Kam Chancellor Won't Play In 2018

The Seattle Seahawks placed safety Kam Chancellor (neck) on the reserve Physically Unable to Perform list, meaning he won't be able to play in 2018. Chancellor was one of the league's top safeties in his prime, but he's unlikely to play football again after a serious neck injury. Without Chancellor and cornerback Richard Sherman (now in San Fran), the once vaunted Legion of Boom defense is crumbling. Disgruntled safety Earl Thomas is holding out and is likely to be traded.

Kam Chancellor Looks To Be Done

Seattle Seahawks strong safety Kam Chancellor (neck) looks to have played his last game in the NFL. He never used the words "retire," but he seemed to indicate in a Twitter post that he would be moving on. "To walk away from the game by choice is one thing, to walk away from the game because of the risk of paralysis is another," Chancellor tweeted. He said on Sunday that the "final test" of his neck injury "showed no healing." The four-time Pro Bowler missed the last seven games of the 2017 season and will be a big loss moving forward with cornerback Richard Sherman also playing for another team. The Legion of Boom as we once knew it has dwindled even further.

Kam Chancellor To Undergo Scan This Summer

Seattle Seahawks safety Kam Chancellor (neck) will undergo a neck scan in late June or early July, and the team should know more about his future at that time, according to general manager John Schneider. Chancellor has been the heart and soul of Seattle's tough defense for years, but he also hasn't played a full season since 2013. In a career-low nine games in 2017, Chancellor had only 49 tackles and no interceptions. At this point it's unclear if he'll be able to contribute much heading into his age-30 season.

Kam Chancellor Intends To Play In 2018

Seattle Seahawks safety Kam Chancellor (neck) intends to play in 2018 if he's medically cleared, according to a source. His $6.8 million for the 2018 season was fully guaranteed on Feb. 9. Chancellor played in a career-low nine games in 2017 due to his injury, and he'll turn 30 in April. That doesn't mean he can't still be effective, but his serious neck injury will surely limit him in offseason workouts, and he's still not guaranteed to play this year. If fully healthy, though, Chancellor is the heart and soul of Seattle's secondary, and they are a much stronger unit when he's playing at full capacity.

Kam Chancellor Has Contract Guaranteed

Seattle Seahawks strong safety Kam Chancellor will have his 2018 salary fully guaranteed after the team kept him on its roster past Feb. 9. The Seahawks essentially had an out in Chancellor's contract; they could have cut him before Friday, Feb. 9 and escaped his $6.8 million salary guarantee. That seemed like a possibility after head coach Pete Carroll said in early January that Chancellor might not play football again. Instead, the Seahawks deemed Chancellor worth keeping for 2018 and perhaps beyond. Signed through 2020, Chancellor should return as Seattle's starting strong safety.

Kam Chancellor Not Expected To Retire

Seattle Seahawks safety Kam Chancellor (neck) is not expected to retire this offseason. Chancellor could have trouble getting cleared from a career-threatening neck injury, but he is going to remain in Seattle for at least another season. The Seahawks owe Chancellor $12 million in guarantees and would increase his cap hit to $19.5 million from cutting him. 29-year-old Chancellor looks likely to open 2018 on the reserve/PUP list.

Cliff Avril, Kam Chancellor May Never Play Again

Seattle Seahawks defensive end Cliff Avril (neck) and strong safety Kam Chancellor (neck) "are going to have a hard time playing football again," head coach Pete Carroll said. The final decision on whether to keep playing will be up to both players, but it's another tough blow for the Legion of Boom that saw their unit struggle in 2017 because of all the injuries. Avril and Chancellor are both key units to Seattle's lockdown defense in recent years, so if they are unable to return, Seattle will struggle to replace them.

Kam Chancellor Officially Out For The Year

The Seattle Seahawks have officially ruled out strong safety Kam Chancellor for the rest of 2017, according to head coach Pete Carroll. Carroll said Chancellor was out for the season this morning on a radio interview, and he also stated that Cliff Avril is scheduled for surgery. Having already lost cornerback Richard Sherman for the year, the blow to Seattle's secondary could spell doom for the once vaunted defense. Seattle will be tested greatly by facing the Eagles this week.

Kam Chancellor Possibly Out For Season

The Seattle Seahawks Legion of Boom continues to get pared down as it is rumored that strong safety Kam Chancellor (neck) is done for the season. According to Mike Garafolo on the NFL Network, Chancellor's season is over due to a neck injury he sustained against Arizona. While All-Pro free safety Earl Thomas is expected to return this week against Atlanta, the loss of Richard Sherman (Achilles) and Chancellor may be too much for the Seattle defense to take. Bradley McDougald is expected to take over as strong safety, and Jeremy Lane will be the primary replacement for Sherman, so all hope is not lost, but don't expect the defense to be the well-oiled machine it usually is.

Kam Chancellor Extended For Three Years

The Seattle Seahawks continued working to keep the Legion of Boom together for as long as possible by locking down strong safety Kam Chancellor for another three years. The 29-year-old All-Pro is arguably the best strong safety in the league, and this contract will allow the team to ensure that they hang on to him through him remaining prime years. By ensuring the group of Chancellor, Earl Thomas, and Richard Sherman stay together, Seattle will continue to be a premier team defense for fantasy players to pick.
