Keke Coutee News
Houston Texans wide receiver Keke Coutee was cut from the team on Tuesday. Coming off a strong finish to the 2020 season, Coutee was believed to be ready to step into a larger role in Houston's offense, particularly with Will Fuller out of the picture, though that won't be the case. The 24-year-old has had issues with fumbling, with four of them in 23 career games, though his potential ability was never in doubt, as he ranks seventh in yards per route run among receivers selected in the 2018 draft. Houston is likely to add to their receiving group but rookie Nico Collins looks poised to step into a fairly large role right away alongside Brandin Cooks, Anthony Miller, and Chris Conley. There should be little threat to Cooks' target share in this offense, so he looks like a nice value at his WR39 ADP in half-PPR formats, even without Deshaun Watson throwing him passes.
The Houston Texans have a lot of new faces at wide receiver this season, but the battle for slot snaps is expected to be between two players who were on last year's team, with Randall Cobb and Keke Coutee competing for those minutes. Cobb was limited to 10 games last season because of injury, catching 38 passes for 441 yards and three touchdowns. Coutee, who'll be entering his last year under contract, has had an uneven Texans career, but being freed from head coach Bill O'Brien allowed him to get snaps at the end of the year, with Coutee finishing with 33 catches for 400 yards and three touchdowns. It's unclear who has the lead in this position battle at this point, but whoever wins out will have some sleeper appeal in full PPR leagues.
Houston Texans wide receiver Keke Coutee finished the season strong as a fill-in starter for Will Fuller V (suspension). Including Sunday's 90-yard effort, Coutee exceeded 50 receiving yards in four of his last five games, with two touchdowns scored in that span. The 23-year-old struggled to hold onto the football at times, as he fumbled three times, two of which were lost. However, he proved that he could produce when being treated like a starter, which likely won't go unnoticed by the new future head coach and general manager. Fellow wideout Randall Cobb has two years remaining on his deal, so unless he's traded, Coutee is likely looking at a reserve role for 2021.
