The San Francisco 49ers agreed to an undisclosed one-year deal with free-agent defensive lineman Kemoko Turay on Thursday, according to his agents. The former second-round pick is coming off a career-high 5.5 sacks with the Indianapolis Colts last year in 13 games (zero starts). The 26-year-old has spent all four of his NFL seasons in Indy, compiling 33 tackles (22 solo), seven tackles for loss, 29 QB hits, 12 sacks, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery in 38 games (three starts). The Niners will be hoping he can repeat his performance from a season ago.
Colts Defense Gets Kemoko Turay Back, Loses Sheldon Day
Indianapolis Colts linebacker/defensive end Kemoko Turay (ankle) was activated off of Injured Reserve on Tuesday, paving the way for him to make his season debut Sunday against Green Bay. But in order to make room for him on the active roster, defensive tackle Sheldon Day was released. Turay has combined for 5.5 sacks over the past two years with Indianapolis and adds yet another pass-rushing specialist to an already stout Colts Defense. Day, who was utilized for fewer than 30 percent of the team's defensive snaps in all four of his games with the Colts, could be picked up by another organization to help stop the run. Indianapolis gets a tough draw in Week 11 by facing quarterbackAaron Rodgers and the Packers, but there's little reason to turn away from one of the league's premier units in season-long formats, especially with yet another pass-rusher activated.
Kemoko Turay Rehabbing, Trying To Become Complete Pass-Rusher
Indianapolis Colts defensive end Kemoko Turay, who was placed on Injured Reserve last year after fracturing his deltoid and tearing a ligament in his ankle, has been rehabbing on the field and is poised to be a major pass-rushing contributor in 2020. In 18 games over two seasons in the NFL, Turay has 5.5 sacks and 18 QB hits with the Colts. At 6-foot-5, 248 pounds, Turay has the quickness and bend around the edge to be a successful pass-rusher for Indy if he can stay on the field. Head coach Frank Reich "feels good" about where Turay is in his rehab, and he's been able to rehab at the Colts team facility. The second-round pick could become more of a complete pass-rusher while training with former Colt Robert Mathis. He could be a great complement to both DeForest Buckner and Justin Houston on Indy's defensive line.
