Tampa Bay Buccaneers veteran running back Kenjon Barner (groin) was placed on Injured Reserve on Monday due to a groin injury that he suffered in Saturday's preseason opener against the Miami Dolphins. Barner played 23 offensive snaps, rushing seven times for 18 yards and catching two passes for 13 yards. He won't be eligible to return to the team at all this season. However, if the Bucs release him with an injury settlement, he'd be free to sign with another team. With Barner on IR, the team signed former Dolphins running back Patrick Laird this week. In his two seasons with Tampa, Barner has just four rushing attempts for zero yards in nine games.
Kenjon Barner Designated To Return From Injured Reserve
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers designated running back Kenjon Barner (groin) for return from Injured Reserve on Tuesday, allowing him to resume practicing with the team. The team also placed linebacker Jack Cichy (arm) on Injured Reserve after he broke his arm in the Divisional Round against the Saints and signed linebacker Deone Bucannon from the practice squad to the active roster in a corresponding move. Barner will be allowed to practice with the team this week, but it doesn't mean he'll come off IR and join the active roster for the NFC Championship against the Packers on Sunday. Barner, a sixth-round pick of the Panthers in 2013, was active for six games this season but didn't receive a single carry and was targeted once in the passing game.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back/kick returner Kenjon Barner has been tagged with a four-game suspension stemming from a violation of the leagues performance-enhancing substance policy. Barner is yet to receive a carry for Tampa Bay this year, but he did draw four offensive snaps last Sunday, in addition to returning a kick for 33 yards. With the Buccaneers backfield potentially decimated by injury heading into Thursday against the Bears, Barner may have had some upside, but thats been erased by his suspension. Should his suspension be upheld, his next chance to return to action comes Nov. 8 versus New Orleans.
Atlanta Falcons running backs Ito Smith and Kenjon Barner are both in the concussion protocol after suffering head injuries in the Week 3 loss to the Colts. Smith saw just one carry on Sunday before his injury. He has very limited standalone value in fantasy if Devonta Freeman is healthy. If Smith cannot get cleared for Week 4 against the Titans, Brian Hill and rookie Qadree Ollison would likely battle for scraps behind Freeman. Barner has only one catch for four yards in 2019 and is not a fantasy option at all when he's healthy.
Atlanta Falcons head coach Dan Quinn said that running back Kenjon Barner will "lead the way for us" at the return position. It doesn't mean much unless you're in a deep league that counts return yardage. Barner, 30, played in nine games with the Patriots and Panthers last year and ran the ball just 19 times for 71 yards. He'll be behind Devonta Freeman, Ito Smith and Brian Hill on the running back depth chart and can go ignored in almost all fantasy leagues.
The Carolina Panthers claimed running back Kenjon Barner off waivers from the Patriots on Wednesday. Barner was drafted by Carolina in the sixth round of the 2013 draft, but he played just one season with them. He had 19 carries for 71 yards in five games for the Patriots this season. Barner will provide depth behind Christian McCaffrey and Cameron Artis-Payne.
The New England Patriots released running back Kenjon Barner and linebacker Nicholas Grigsby on Tuesday in order to make room for cornerback Duke Dawson (hamstring), who was activated from Injured Reserve, according to a source. Even with rookie Sony Michel sidelined for a few games with a sprained knee, Barner didn't move the fantasy needle. He had only 19 carries for 71 yards (3.7 yards per carry) in five games for the Pats.
New England Patriots running back Kenjon Barner carried the ball only two times for four yards in the Patriots Week 8 win over the Bills. The injury to rookie Sony Michel opened the door for Barner to get some run and had his name flying off of the waiver wire shelves this week in fantasy. But instead the Patriots leaned heavily on the arm of quarterback Tom Brady and even gave gadget receiver Cordarrelle Patterson 10 carries in the game. Fantasy owners that started Barner out of desperation have to be crestfallen and cannot be trusted heading into Week 9 against the Packers.
New England Patriots running back Kenjon Barner is in line to serve as a complementary piece in the backfield against the Bills in Week 8. Veteran James White should see most of the snaps but Barner will try and fill the shoes of injured rookie running back Sony Michel. Barner came off the bench to carry the ball 10 times for 36 yards against the Bears in Week 7 and put together some solid, if unspectacular, runs. Barner is worth a flier off the waiver wire to stash but, for now, will be a no more than a touchdown-dependent option in Week 8.
New England Patriots running back Kenjon Barner got some rare playing time in Week 7, adding 36 yards on 10 carries in the Patriots 38-31 win over the Bears. Running back Sony Michel exited the game early with a lower-leg injury and Barner was thrust into action. He ran with purpose and helped move the chains on some scoring drives. It is unclear of the extent of Michel's injury moving forward but Barner could see an significant spike in playing time over the next few games. Fantasy owners desperate at running back could certainly take a flier on Barner.
