Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said that safety Marquise Blair will "get a lot of consideration to contribute" in a nickel role covering the slot this season. Ugo Amadi was the main nickel cornerback last season but struggled in coverage and will be pushed by Blair this summer. Blair, a second-round pick last year, would be given more of a chance to see defensive snaps with both Quandre Diggs and Bradley McDougald ahead of him at safety. The 22-year-old (23 next month) from Utah had 32 tackles (24 solo) and three forced fumbles in 14 games (three starts) for the Seahawks in his rookie season in 2019.
Seattle Seahawks safety Marquise Blair scooped the bouncing ball like a true pro when he picked up the blocked field goal on Sunday. Blair then took off down the sideline towards the Arizona goal line, but traffic was in his way for the entire run and eventually brought him down at the Cardinals 16-yard line. The Seahawks Defense wasn't impressive on Sunday, surrendering over 250 rushing yards to the basement-dwelling Cardinals. With how badly banged up the defense is, concerns abound regarding next week's matchup with the division-leading 49ers and the playoffs beyond. It's looking like it might be a bit of a whimpering end to the season for Seattle.
Seattle Seahawks rookie safety Marquise Blair was carted off the field in the third quarter of Sunday's game against the Minnesota Vikings after suffering back spasms. Blair had been hyped coming into the game, but he was beat for a touchdown in the first half and eventually left with the injury. At this point, it's unclear how serious the injury is or how much time Blair will miss, but it's just another shot at Seattle's rookie class after first-round pick L.J. Collier has been sidelined with a high ankle sprain as well. With Bobby Wagner, K.J. Wright, and Shaquem Griffin also recovering from injuries, Seattle's defense is taking a serious beating to start the season.
It's not the Legion of Boom, but a handful of new players like Marquise Blair, Jamar Taylor, and Al Woods are already turning heads on the Seattle Seahawks defense. Blair, the team's second-round pick this season, got special mention by head coach Pete Carroll for how quickly he's been able to adjust and physically do everything the team wants from him as a free safety. Taylor has garnered a lot of attention for logging multiple pass breakups every day in camp as he battles for a cornerback job, and Woods is slated to likely start in the interior while Jarran Reed is serving his suspension.
