The San Francisco 49ers will promote running back Matt Dayes from the practice squad to the active roster before the Monday night game against the Giants, according to a source. With Raheem Mostert (forearm) on Injured Reserve, Dayes will serve as the third back behind Matt Breida and Alfred Morris. Dayes can be ignored in fantasy.
Cleveland Browns head coach Hue Jackson told reporters on Thursday that rookie running back Matt Dayes has "flashed" and is on the way toward establishing himself as an every down running back in the NFL. Dayes, a seventh-round pick out of NC State, is battling for the opportunity to be the Browns' third running back behind Isaiah Crowell and Duke Johnson. It is doubtful Dayes will have much fantasy impact in his rookie season but Crowell is scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent following the season, which could create a future opportunity for the rookie. Dayes can be stashed at the end of deep dynasty league rosters, just in case.
