Patriots In Contact With Mike Gillislee

The New England Patriots have been in contact with free-agent running back Mike Gillislee, who was released by the Saints on Saturday. Gillislee spent last year with New England, and the Patriots could use more running back depth with Rex Burkhead and Jeremy Hill done for the season. Rookie Sony Michel and James White are the current members of the backfield, but Gillislee could provide a short-yardage/goal-line option for head coach Bill Belichick.

Saints Release Mike Gillislee

The New Orleans Saints released running back Mike Gillislee on Saturday. Gillislee had 16 carries for 43 yards in four games for the Saints, but he was expendable with Mark Ingram returning from his four-game suspension. Gillislee could land with another team in a short-yardage/goal-line role, but he doesn't carry much fantasy value.

Mike Gillislee Limited In Week 4

New Orleans Saints running back Mike Gillislee was held to two carries for six yards and one reception for nine yards in Week 4 against the New York Giants. Gillislee has taken the backseat to running back Alvin Kamara who has dominated the Saints backfield. Running back Mark Ingram will be returning from suspension in Week 5 which will likely decrease Gillislee's already small workload. Gillislee can be dropped in nearly all formats- he has very limited upside with Kamara and Ingram working ahead of him.

Mike Gillislee Sees Small Increase In Touches

New Orleans Saints running back Mike Gillislee had eight carries for 18 yards in Sunday's win against the Cleveland Browns, an increase of five touches and nine yards from Week 1. Gillislee remains nearly irrelevant in all fantasy formats as running back Alvin Kamara continues to lock down the backfield. Gillislee will be even less of a factor when running back Mark Ingram returns from suspension in Week 5.

Mike Gillislee Struggles In Week 1

New Orleans Saints running back Mike Gillislee struggled in Week 1. In a negative game script where the Saints were playing from behind, Gillislee only totaled three carries for nine yards and a fumble. It is possible for Gillislee to get more touches in the future, but he remains nearly irrelevant in all fantasy formats. In addition, when running back Mark Ingram returns from suspension in Week 5, Gillislee will be even less of a factor in the Saints offense.

Mike Gillislee To Sign With Saints

Free-agent running back Mike Gillislee will sign a one-year deal with the New Orleans Saints on Sunday after being cut by the Patriots on Saturday, according to a source. This move makes sense after the team also cut Jonathan Williams on Saturday. Mark Ingram will also serve a four-game suspension to open the year, so Gillislee will serve as a short-yardage option behind Alvin Kamara and Boston Scott. Gillslee's fantasy value couldn't have gotten much worse than it was with the Patriots, and he might be worth a look as a waiver option early in the year if he vultures some touchdowns for the Saints.

Patriots Release Mike Gillislee

The New England Patriots released running back Mike Gillislee on Saturday, according to a source. This was the expected course of action all throughout training camp and the preseason with Jeremy Hill outplaying Gillislee for the short-yardage/goal-line role in 2018. While Hill could have decent weeks at the goal line for the Patriots, his fantasy production will be way too unpredictable to rely on. This is a crowded backfield with Rex Burkhead, James White, rookie Sony Michel and Hill all in the mix.

Mike Gillislee Still The Odd Man Out

New England Patriots running back Mike Gillislee still appears to be the odd man out for the final running back roster spot. Jeremy Hill is projected to beat out Gillislee for the power role. Brandon Bolden could also be cut and then brought back later. As of now, the Patriots are expected to keep Rex Burkhead, James White, rookie Sony Michel and Hill in their backfield.

Mike Gillislee Looks To Be Odd Man Out

New England Patriots running back Mike Gillislee has looked sharp in practices and is running with noticeable burst, but he's still behind Jeremy Hill after Hill's star performance in the first preseason game. Gillislee worked on his receiving skills in the offseason but struggled in short-yardage situations last year. However, he's had more chances to make his case with rookie Sony Michel (knee) missing eight straight practices and Rex Burkhead missing four straight practices. Even if Gillislee does somehow make the final roster, he'll strictly be a short-yardage/goal-line back, leaving his fantasy value extremely flimsy and unpredictable.

Mike Gillislee Has A Chance To Make Roster

New England Patriots running back Mike Gillislee is projected to make the final roster over Jeremy Hill, in the opinion of The Boston Globe's Ben Volin. Gillislee struggled last year and doesn't contribute on special teams, but rookie Sony Michel is already hurt and Rex Burkhead was also banged up throughout the 2017 season. Gillislee is strictly a short-yardage/goal-line back, so his fantasy value will be extremely limited if he even makes the squad. Brandon Bolden and James Develin are also considered locks.
