The Atlanta Falcons agreed to terms on a two-year deal worth $8.5 million with former Los Angeles Chargers defensive end Morgan Fox on Friday, according to his agency, the Aura Sports Group. Cox had 15.5 sacks the last three seasons and will be a notable addition to a Falcons defensive line that really struggled to generate pressure on opposing quarterbacks in 2024. The 30-year-old former undrafted free agent out of Colorado State-Pueblo has 27.5 career sacks and 183 tackles (120) solo in his eight NFL seasons with the Chargers, Los Angeles Rams and Carolina Panthers. Fox is a quality rotational pass-rusher that will add a boost for the Falcons moving forward along another new addition in Leonard Floyd, who Atlanta also signed this week in free agency. Both Fox and Floyd will be trying to make up for the loss of Pro Bowl defensive lineman Grady Jarrett.
Los Angeles Chargers defensive end Morgan Fox re-signed an undisclosed two-year deal on Wednesday, according to his agent David Canter. The Chargers decided to bring Fox back after he posted career-highs in tackles (38), solo tackles (24) and sacks (6.5) while adding eight tackles for loss and 11 QB hits in 17 games (12 starts) in the regular season in his first year with the team. The 27-year-old continues to get better and hasn't missed a game since tearing his ACL with the Los Angeles Rams back in 2018. Fox will look to continue his starting role on the Chargers defensive line in 2023.
Free-agent defensive end Morgan Fox signed an undisclosed deal with the Los Angeles Chargers on Wednesday, according to his agent, David Canter. Fox will be reuniting with head coach Brandon Staley, who was the defensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Rams when Cox had a career-high six sacks in 2020. The 27-year-old pass-rusher spent last season with the Carolina Panthers, recording a career-high 34 tackles (16 solo), but he managed just 1.5 sacks in 17 games (nine starts). Fox could bounce back under Staley with the Bolts, though. He has a total of 103 tackles (66 solo), 16 tackles for loss, 24 QB hits, 12 sacks, four forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries in 69 career games (15 starts) in five NFL seasons.
Panthers Defense Adds Another Pass-Rusher In Morgan Fox
The Carolina Panthers signed former Los Angeles Rams defensive lineman Morgan Fox to a two-year, $8.1 million deal. Fox will receive $7 million guaranteed. Fox broke out with six sacks in 2020 for the Rams despite being a rotational player at defensive end for a strong Rams defense. He often subbed in for Michael Brockers on the defensive line, playing just 39 percent of the snaps. But Fox still recorded 27 tackles, nine QB hits and eight tackles for loss in addition to his six sacks. Los Angeles will surely be in line for defensive line help after losing both Fox and Brockers. A'Shawn Robinson could fill the void at defensive end, but he's not much of a pass-rusher. Fox joins linebacker Haason Reddick as pass-rushing specialists for a rebuilt Panthers defense.
