Eagles Release Nick Gates

The Philadelphia Eagles announced on Tuesday that they have released center Nick Gates (groin). In his lone season with the Eagles in 2024, Gates played in only nine games (one start) and finished the year on Injured Reserve due to a groin injury. The 29-year-old former undrafted free agent out of Nebraska was a reserve offensive lineman for the Eagles when healthy. Gates made his NFL debut in 2019 with the New York Giants and spent the first four years of his NFL career with the G-Men before joining the Washington Commanders in 2023. He'll get a head start on free agency this offseason but will need to prove he's past his groin injury before anyone will take a chance on him as offensive-line depth.

Nick Gates Placed On Injured Reserve

Philadelphia Eagles center Nick Gates (groin) has been placed on Injured Reserve on Saturday. Gates has been dealing with a lingering groin injury for some time, so the Eagles decided to move him to the IR. They needed to do this in order to free up a roster spot for defensive end Brandon Graham (triceps) who was activated from the IR on Saturday. The absence of Gates shouldn't make much of an impact on the Eagles ahead of their Super Bowl matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs. Gates is the backup center and has only appeared in nine games this season. Starting center Cam Jurgens has been removed from the injury report, so Gates wasn't likely going to play anyway. However, the Eagles will lack depth on their o-line ahead of the big game.

Nick Gates Placed On Injured Reserve

The New York Giants placed offensive lineman Nick Gates (leg) on Injured Reserve on Tuesday after he suffered a gruesome leg injury in the Week 2 loss to the Washington Football Team last Thursday. Gates was making his first career start at left guard when he fractured his lower left leg and was carted off the field. Gates underwent surgery in D.C. the following day. The 25-year-old had started the previous 17 games at center before moving to guard when Shane Lemieux was placed on IR last week. The Giants also gave Billy Price the start at center last week. Price is expected to remain as the starting center, while Ben Bredeson should take over duties at left guard. It wouldn't be a surprise if Gates missed the rest of the 2021 season.

Giants Lineman Nick Gates Suffers Leg Fracture

New York Giants offensive lineman Nick Gates was carted off the field in the first quarter of Thursday's game against the Washington Football Team with a fractured leg. Gates had been starting at center for the team, but slid over to left guard for Thursday's game after the Giants had traded for Billy Price. New York's offense moved the ball well with Gates in the game. His extended absence will make life difficult for running back Saquon Barkley and quarterback Daniel Jones.
