The Detroit Lions announced on Monday that they signed free-agent defensive end Robert Ayers. The 33-year-old defensive lineman spent the last two seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In 2017, he started 10 games and registered 31 total tackles, including two sacks and two forced fumbles. Detroit has been attempting to bolster their pass rush throughout the preseason. Last Thursday, they also traded for linebacker Eli Harold from the San Francisco 49ers. Ayers does not make the unit any younger, but he was a second-round pick in 2009 and has 35 sacks in his career. This defense still has a long way to go before the regular season, but Ayers should provide some assistance in getting to the quarterback.
