The Dallas Cowboys have released running back Ronnie Hillman. Hillman was signed in the offseason but was never going to pass Darren McFadden or Alfred Morris on the depth chart behind starter Ezekiel Elliott. This might be the end of the line for Hillman's NFL career, as he was unable to make a team that employs Rod Smith as a running back.
Ronnie Hillman saw Andre Williams take the majority of the carries from the backfield on Sunday, but he made a host of big plays anyway. Hillman had multiple receptions with long yards after the catch, and his seven carries added up to another 41 yards. He was especially crucial in third-down situations where he helped San Diego pick up multiple long first downs.
Ronnie Hillman Looks Good in Return; Limited Opportunities Probably Make Him Worthless Though
Ronnie Hillman looked far better than Kenneth Farrow on Sunday, but it's likely too little too late for this season. Hillman carried the ball seven times for 34 yards while Farrow barely outgained him with twice the number of opportunities. Unfortunately for Hillman, his window is probably too short to turn the chance into anything worthwhile. Unless the coaching staff makes a dramatic change this week, he'll likely remain in a timeshare with Farrow for the rest of the season.
