Ryan Kerrigan announced his retirement from the NFL after playing 11 seasons. The four-time Pro Bowler played 10 seasons in Washington and holds the team's all-time record for sacks with 95.5. He amassed three interceptions and 26 forced fumbles over his career while adding 333 solo tackles and 149 quarterback hits. After spending his final season with the division rival Philadelphia Eagles, the 33-year-old will sign a one-day contract and retire as a member of the Commanders.
Former Washington Football Team defensive end Ryan Kerrigan announced on his Instagram that he's signing an undisclosed deal with the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday. After spending 10 seasons with Washington, the four-time Pro Bowler will remain in the NFC East and join the division-rival Eagles. The 32-year-old veteran has racked up 454 tackles (119 for loss), 147 QB hits, three interceptions (all for touchdowns), 25 passes defensed, 26 forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries and 95.5 sacks in 156 career games (141 starts) after he was the 16th overall pick in the 2011 NFL draft. For an Eagles team lacking a ton of depth on the defensive front, Kerrigan represents a very nice pickup.
Washington Football Team Pro Bowl defensive end Ryan Kerrigan is visiting with the Cincinnati Bengals on Wednesday, according to a source. Kerrigan could be another addition to a revamped Bengals defense this offseason. Washington also has interest in re-signing Kerrigan, the team's all-time sack leader. Kerrigan will turn 33 in August, but he's been one of the most consistent edge rushers in the league, recording 96 sacks over 156 games and 5.5 or more sacks in every season since 2011. The four-time Pro Bowler had 13 sacks in consecutive seasons in 2017 and 2018 and has had 5.5 each in the last two seasons. He could form a formidable pass-rushing duo with Trey Hendrickson if he lands in Cincinnati.
The Washington Football Team does not plan to trade star defensive end Ryan Kerrigan, despite Kerrigan requesting that the team move him. ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that the four-time Pro Bowl defender wants to be moved after his playing time has decreased. We'll see if the Football Team stays steady with this plan, but if they do move on from Kerrigan, the Washington defense will look a little less imposing upfront and takes a bit of a hit in the season-long rankings.
Washington Redskins defensive end Ryan Kerrigan spoke with local media about the upcoming season, including the transition to the 4-3 defense and his excitement to play on the same defensive line as second overall pick Chase Young. Kerrigan has been a Pro Bowl outside linebacker in three of the last four seasons while playing in a 3-4 defense, but he anticipates being just as effective as a defensive end. Kerrigan recorded double-digit sacks in three straight seasons before only putting up 5.5 last year. He missed four games with injury, though, snapping a streak of 139 straight games played. Kerrigan, along with Young and Montez Sweat, make up a formidable pass rush, making the Redskins Defense a potential streamer or bye-week replacement in 2020. Kerrigan also said that he'd like to finish his career in Washington.
Ryan Kerrigan, Brandon Scherff In The Team's Plans
Washington Redskins head coach Ron Rivera said that linebacker Ryan Kerrigan and offensive guard Brandon Scherff are both in the team's plans for 2020. The Redskins have also started contract talks with Scherff and his representation. If a deal isn't struck with Scherff, the franchise tag is a possibility. Kerrigan wasn't able to play in a full season for the first time in his career in 2019, playing in 12 games and recording career lows in tackles (25), sacks (5.5) and forced fumbles (one). He's had double-digit sack totals each of the previous three seasons and could bounce back if he stays on the field in 2020. Scherff was the fifth overall pick in 2015 and graded out as one of the top guards in the NFL in 2019.
Washington Redskins starting weakside linebacker Ryan Kerrigan was a limited practice participant on Friday with a hip injury. The hip issue must have just popped up as Kerrigan was not listed on the team's first two injury reports this week. He is expected to play against Arizona on Sunday. Last year, the seventh-year pro had the fourth most sacks in the league with 13. He also registered 44 tackles to go along with one interception, which he returned for a touchdown, and three forced fumbles. Kerrigan is an elite pass rusher and has a plus-matchup against a weak Cardinals offensive line, so he should definitely be considered in IDP leagues.
