The Detroit Lions have added kicker Sam Ficken to their practice squad. The Lions also have Michael Badgley on their practice squad. Badgley knocked down all four of his field goal attempts in his lone appearance this season. Ficken will be solid competition for an organization seeking a reliable kicker. Over his career, Ficken has landed 35-of-48 field goal attempts (72.9%) with a long of 54 yards. Whoever wins the kicking job could have decent streaming appeal in this surprising high scoring Lions offense.
Titans Place Sam Ficken On IR, Sign Michael Badgley
The Tennessee Titans have placed kicker Sam Ficken (groin) on injured reserve with a groin injury. Ficken was claimed off waivers in August from the New York Jets and would go on to win the kicker job. He was limited in practice on Friday and will now miss at least the first three weeks of the season. Replacing Ficken as the Titans kicker will be former Los Angeles Charger Michael Badgley. Badgley spent his time in camp with the Chargers, but was a roster casualty during final cuts. The former Charger had a rough 2020 season and was 24-for-33 in field attempts with three missed extra points. The Titans face the Arizona Cardinals in Week 1, but Badgley is as shaky as they come at his position and managers should look elsewhere on Sunday.
The kicker competition in Tennessee has taken a turn, as the Titans have claimed former Jets kicker Sam Ficken off waivers and have waived Blake Haubeil. Haubeil had been competing with Tucker McCann for the role, but both players have struggled in camp, especially on longer kicks. Ficken should be expected to win this job at this point after going 12-for-15 on field goals last season. There's not much reason to roster whoever the Titans kicker is in fantasy, though.
Sam Ficken Gets Activated Off Of Injured Reserve Saturday
New York Jets kicker Sam Ficken (groin) has been activated off of injured reserve, paving the way for him to potentially serve as the team's kicker Sunday against the Rams. There had been much activity from New York in the kicking game throughout the week, with Chase McLaughlin having been claimed off of waivers and Sergio Castillo released. Ficken had been perfect on extra points prior to his latest appearance back in Week 11 where he missed two extra points. Despite his marked improvement in field-goal percentage in 2020 (90 percent), Ficken presents a finicky fantasy asset due to the nature of New York's underdog status Sunday against a stout Los Angeles defense and in their remaining two matchups versus Cleveland and New England.
The New York Jets have designated rookie running back La'Mical Perine (ankle) and kicker Sam Ficken (groin) to return to practice after both players were placed on Injured Reserve on Nov. 24. Perine and Ficken now have a chance to return before the end of the season, but they won't be guaranteed to be active for Week 15 against the Rams. Perine has 55 carries for 202 yards and two touchdowns while also adding 10 catches for 49 yards in his nine games played in his rookie season. He's unlikely to be fantasy relevant in single-year leagues the rest of the way as long as Frank Gore is still in the picture. New York just claimed kicker Chase McLaughlin off waivers on Tuesday, so he'll be given a shot to handle the kicking duties the rest of the way for the winless Jets.
La'Mical Perine, Sam Ficken Placed On Injured Reserve
The New York Jets placed rookie running back La'Mical Perine (ankle) and kicker Sam Ficken (undisclosed) on Injured Reserve on Tuesday. Perine and Ficken will miss at least the next three games. Perine was starting to see a bigger role on offense, so this injury is a tough break as he continues to develop in his rookie season. The youngster is only worth hanging onto in dynasty/keeper leagues. Veteran Frank Gore will go back to being the workhorse back in the Jets backfield, but he's nothing more than a low-upside, low-floor RB3/flex in much deeper leagues in this mediocre Jets offense. Ficken missed two extra points in Week 11 and wasn't on the fantasy radar to begin with. Sergio Castillo is next in line for kicking duties but should also be avoided in fantasy.
New York Jets kicker Sam Ficken (groin) is out for the team's Week 8 meeting with the Kansas City Chiefs. Sergio Castillo will serve as the kicker. Against this Chiefs team, the Jets shouldn't have many scoring chances, so there's no reason to rush out and pick up Castillo to be your fantasy kicker.
New York Jets kicker Sam Ficken (groin) will test his injured groin in practice on Friday, but he's in danger of missing his second straight game in Week 8 against the Chiefs. If Ficken can't play, Sergio Castillo would be elevated from the practice squad to play this Sunday. Ficken has made nine of his 10 field-goal tries this year and all six of his extra points in six games, but he hasn't been even close to fantasy relevant in this terrible Jets offense. That's especially true for New York's kicker this weekend against the high-octane Chiefs offense, as they won't be afforded the luxury of settling for field goals. It's unlikely that the Jets kicking situation will be fantasy relevant at all in 2020.
New York Jets kicker Sam Ficken made two field goals on four attempts and converted his lone extra point Sunday in Buffalo. Conditions were less-than-ideal for kicking on a cold Sunday in Buffalo, but Ficken did not do much this season to give fantasy managers confidence he can be trusted in 2020. He finishes the season with just a 73.9 percent rate on field goals while making just 22 of 25 extra points. Ficken will likely be in a kicking competition somewhere once training camps open next July.
New York Jets kicker Sam Ficken had a career day last week against Pittsburgh, drilling all three field-goal attempts, including a career-long 54-yarder. Despite the positive game, Ficken has been inconsistent most of the season, making just 74 percent of his field goals. Traditionally, Buffalo is not the easiest place to kick in December, and while there's no snow in the forecast, there is a good chance of rain, which will make things difficult in the kicking game. Fantasy managers should look elsewhere for a Week 17 kicker.
