Green Bay Packers running back La'Mical Perine has been released by the organization on Tuesday. Perine joined the Packers a few weeks ago after getting cut by the Pittsburgh Steelers at the end of August. Perine was on the Packers practice squad, but they needed to move him in order to make room for tight end Johnny Lumpkin. Through three seasons, Perine has 340 rushing yards and two touchdowns between the New York Jets and Kansas City Chiefs. The 26-year-old will look to catch on elsewhere as a depth option.
The Green Bay Packers have signed running back La'Mical Perine to their practice squad on Friday. This news comes days after Perine was cut by the Pittsburgh Steelers. He joined Pittsburgh in May and rushed 16 times for 46 yards with a touchdown in the preseason. He should serve as decent depth with the Packers shorthanded at running back right now. In three seasons, Perine has rushed for 340 yards with two touchdowns in 17 games between the New York Jets and Kansas City Chiefs. Fantasy managers can continue to ignore Perine with Josh Jacobs likely to see the bulk of the carries in Green Bay.
The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed free agent running back La'Mical Perine to a one-year deal, they announced on Thursday. Perine had been cut loose by the Kansas City Chiefs roughly one week earlier. A fourth-round pick in 2020, Perine has never been a major contributor out of the backfield. His best season came as a rookie with the New York Jets when he totaled 295 scrimmage yards and two touchdowns. He has just 33 touches over seven games since then, though he did log one start with the Chiefs in 2023 (21 rushes, 76 rushing yards, three receptions, 33 receiving yards). Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren have the top two running back spots occupied in Pittsburgh, so Perine is presumably competing for the third-string role with versatile veteran Cordarrelle Patterson, former Harvard standout Aaron Shampklin, and undrafted rookie Daijun Edwards. He remains off the fantasy radar.
The Kansas City Chiefs released running back La'Mical Perine on Friday. Perine was taken by the New York Jets in the fourth round (120th overall) in 2020 out of Florida. He spent his first three years with the Jets and only played in 14 games (zero starts) over two years, racking up 263 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 72 rushing attempts, adding 11 receptions for 63 yards. The 26-year-old joined the Chiefs for the 2023 campaign and had 22 carries for 77 yards and added three catches for 33 yards in just three regular-season games (one start). He's now on the open market and will be looking to join another squad for training camp this summer. No matter where Perine latches on, he'll be well off the fantasy radar and will just be trying to make the team out of training camp and the preseason.
Kansas City Chiefs running back La'Mical Perine shouldered a bell-cow role in Week 18's regular-season finale as the team topped the Los Angeles Chargers 13-12, carrying the ball 21 times for 76 yards with three catches for 33 yards. Isiah Pacheco (quadriceps/shoulder) was inactive for Sunday's date, as the Chiefs rested their top playmakers ahead of the postseason, and Perine handled the interim lead-back role fairly well. Clyde Edwards-Helaire made a brief cameo early in the game for three touches before joining the key producers on the sidelines. The 25-year-old former New York Jet is settled in as K.C.'s No. 3 tailback with Jerick McKinnon (groin) on injured reserve but would likely only be called upon during the playoffs in the event of an injury to Pacheco or Edwards-Helaire, so he won't be fantasy relevant on Saturday versus the Miami Dolphins for Wild Card play.
The Kansas City Chiefs signed running back La'Mical Perine to a Reserve/Futures Deal on Wednesday. The team also signed Kendall Blanton, Dicaprio Bootle, Matt Bushman, Mike Caliendo, Cole Christiansen, Jerrion Early, Chris Oladokun, Cornell Powell, Austin Reiter, Danny Shelton and Ihmir Smith-Marsette. The 25-year-old Perine didn't sign to Kansas City's practice squad until last month, and he didn't see any playing time in a game. The former fourth-rounder by the New York Jets in 2020 has played in two seasons with New York, carrying the ball 72 times for 263 yards and two touchdowns in 14 games (zero starts). Sixty four of his 72 carries came in his rookie campaign. Perine will give the Chiefs more depth at the position heading into the 2023 season.
The Houston Texans tried out free-agent running back La'Mical Perine on Wednesday. Perine landed with the Philadelphia Eagles this offseason after he was waived by the New York Jets, but he was then released from Philly's practice squad just last week. The 24-year-old former fourth-rounder received 72 carries for 263 yards and two touchdowns while adding 11 receptions on 15 targets for 63 yards through the air in his two seasons with the Jets. If Perine were to land in Houston, he'd serve as running back depth behind rookie Dameon Pierce, veteran Rex Burkhead and Dare Ogunbowale.
New York Jets running back La'Mical Perine has been waived by the organization on Monday. The former fourth round pick rushed for 263 yards and two touchdowns through 14 games with the Jets. He only carried the ball 72 times, so he wasn't given much of a chance to succeed. Perine is only 24 years old, so there is still time for him to turn it around. Clearly, the Jets didn't feel that Perine brought enough to their team to keep around. He should land himself another job elsewhere, but will probably be a third or fourth string.
New York Jets running backs Ty Johnson and La'Mical Perine are healthy scratches for the Week 15 contest against the Miami Dolphins now that Michael Carter (ankle) and Tevin Coleman (concussion) are both back from their injuries. Austin Walter will serve as the No. 3 behind Carter and Coleman on Sunday. Carter has been on Injured Reserve since Week 11, but he is expected to have a significant role as the Jets lead back in his return against Miami. There is reason to be skeptical about Carter's upside in Week 15, but the Jets don't have a ton of other playmakers to go to, which should make him at least a decent RB3/flex option for fantasy managers. Coleman, who missed last week with a concussion, will be tough to trust with Carter back in the picture.
New York Jets running back La'Mical Perine was asked to be the lead back for this offense in Week 14. The Jets were without Tevin Coleman (concussion) and Michael Carter (ankle) so they really had to dig deep to find a replacement. Perine rushed seven times for 28 yards in the loss to the New Orleans Saints. The hope is that Coleman can play next week against the Miami Dolphins. That means, Perine should fall out of the rotation, but he won't be worth rostering even if he does play again.
