Ty Johnson a Distant Second in Bills Rushing Attack

Buffalo Bills running back Ty Johnson does not boast fantasy appeal in Week 13 despite operating as the primary handcuff to backfield mate James Cook. The 28-year-old has actually seen his role in the passing game remain steady since Week 9, collecting at least two targets and receptions over the four-game sample. Still, he's failed to carry the ball more than twice in any game over that stretch, and has done so just twice on the season as a whole, with Cook handily leading the backfield. Furthermore, quarterback Josh Allen has more than tripled Johnson's carry total (70-21), leaving little volume left to go around on the ground. Johnson is worthy of a stash in the deepest of PPR formats for his stable work in the receiving game, but his floor is low, and the ceiling is nearly nonexistent. He's RotoBaller's PPR RB64 ahead of Week 13.

Ty Johnson Stuck in Depth Role for Foreseeable Future

Buffalo Bills running back Ty Johnson continues to operate out of a depth role and is not a reliable fantasy option. Johnson has been the clear No. 2 option behind James Cook this season, primarily checking into the game on occasional passing downs. He has 18 carries and 11 targets so far, ranking as the overall RB70 in PPR leagues. As long as the Bills continue to feed Cook a heavy dose of touches, Johnson and fellow running back Ray Davis will be non-factors in fantasy football. Johnson's only path to fantasy productivity is an injury to Cook, and even then, we could see Davis get the early-down work. The 28-year-old should be left on fantasy waivers in all leagues.

Ty Johnson a Touchdown-Dependent Option for Week 10

Buffalo Bills running back Ty Johnson found the end zone for the first time this season during last week's win over the Kansas City Chiefs. Johnson rushed the ball twice for eight yards and a touchdown. He also hauled in both his targets for 12 yards through the air. There was some speculation that Johnson would see a larger role this weekend with James Cook (ankle) banged up. However, Cook won't carry an injury designation into the Week 10 matchup against the Miami Dolphins. Johnson figures to resume his backup role which is only a few carries per game. That being said, Johnson should only be viewed as a touchdown-dependent option for Week 10.

Ty Johnson Could See More Work in Week 10

Buffalo Bills running back Ty Johnson could see increased usage in Week 10. Through eight games, he has logged 17 carries for 72 yards and a touchdown, along with four receptions for 31 yards. With James Cook (foot/ankle) not practicing, Johnson may be in line for a larger workload. Johnson has outsnapped Ray Davis this season, but in the one game Cook missed last year, Davis played 63% of the snaps compared to Johnson's 35%. Cook's status will dictate how the backfield shakes out, so monitor practice reports closely. If Cook sits, both Johnson and Davis would see expanded roles against a vulnerable Miami defense.

Ty Johnson Worth a Look on the Waiver Wire?

Buffalo Bills running back Ty Johnson could become an interesting mid-week waiver-wire pickup heading into Week 10 against the division-rival Miami Dolphins on Sunday after it was announced on Wednesday that starting RB James Cook (ankle, foot) is not practicing. Johnson only played 20% of the offensive snaps in the Week 9 win over the Kansas City Chiefs and had just two carries, but he was able to fall into the end zone for his first touchdown of 2025. The 28-year-old has also been Buffalo's preferred choice as the backup to Cook this year over Ray Davis, who played just 5% of the snaps last weekend. If Cook's injury is serious enough to sideline him this weekend, the Bills would likely split backfield touches between Johnson and Davis, but at the very least, fantasy managers should be keeping a close eye on this situation over the next few days. Johnson has only 17 carries on the year for 72 yards and one TD.

Ty Johnson Remains a Deep Handcuff Option in Buffalo

Buffalo Bills running back Ty Johnson continues to play a modest role in the team's backfield rotation, logging between 20% and 33% of offensive snaps in each of the first four games. However, his on-field presence has not translated into meaningful fantasy production, as he's averaging just two carries for 10.8 yards per game. With James Cook III firmly entrenched as the lead back and quarterback Josh Allen consistently handling a share of the rushing workload, Johnson's fantasy value remains minimal. Unless Cook misses time, Johnson offers little more than deep-league or handcuff appeal. Fantasy managers should avoid starting him in Week 5 against a Patriots defense that has allowed the second-fewest rushing yards per game. Johnson's role is simply too limited to warrant consideration outside of the deepest formats.

Ty Johnson Back With Buffalo

The Buffalo Bills have re-signed running back Ty Johnson on a two-year deal. The amount of the contract is undisclosed. ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported the news. The Maryland product tied his career high with four total touchdowns last season and was a valuable asset on third downs for the team. Johnson played the second-most snaps of all Bills' RBs in 2024 and will likely again slot in as a change-of-pace option and third-down specialist behind incumbent starter James Cook. However, he'll still have second-year back Ray Davis to compete with for touches, and Davis out-carried Johnson 113-41 in just his rookie season. Despite what this means for the team on the field, it's unlikely to make an impact regarding fantasy. The 27-year-old presents as nothing more than a potential low-end handcuff.

Ty Johnson Tough To Trust In Backup Role Against Chiefs

Buffalo Bills running back Ty Johnson remains an unreliable fantasy option ahead of Sunday's AFC Championship against the Kansas City Chiefs. Johnson has consistently operated as the No. 2 running back behind James Cook, and he has also lost plenty of opportunities to rookie Ray Davis. Outside of an impressive Wild Card Weekend in which Johnson caught a touchdown pass and posted his season-high for rushing yards, the veteran running back has been tough to trust in fantasy football. This week won't be any different. In fact, Johnson's job could get even harder as he takes on a dominant Kansas City run defense. The Chiefs have been lethal against running backs this year, allowing the third-fewest rushing yards, fifth-fewest catches, and fourth-fewest receiving yards to the position during the 2024 regular season. Furthermore, they didn't surrender a single receiving touchdown to running backs. Johnson makes his biggest impact when he can capitalize on a defense's mistakes, such as two weeks ago against the Denver Broncos when he made a phenomenal touchdown catch in the back of the end zone. Against a stout, well-coached Chiefs defense, that won't be easy to do. Fantasy managers and bettors may want to look elsewhere for production at the running back position, though your options are certainly slim with just four teams left in the playoffs.

Ty Johnson A Sneaky Play Against Baltimore

Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen calls running back Ty Johnson "the best third-down back in football." The veteran was utilized that way in the Wild Card victory over Denver, tallying 11 touches for 70 yards and a touchdown. An increase in snaps was, in part, due to running back Ray Davis suffering a concussion. The rookie hadn't cleared concussion protocol as of Friday and is questionable Sunday. The Bills should pass more often to avoid slamming into Baltimore's top rush defense, which could lead to more snaps for Johnson. He's a sneaky DFS player and could see several targets on Sunday.

Ty Johnson Becomes Buffalo’s Unsung Hero In Playoff Win

Buffalo Bills running back Ty Johnson rushed nine times for 44 yards and caught two passes for 26 yards and a touchdown in the team's 31-7 victory over the Denver Broncos to advance to the Divisional round. Johnson was the second running back to get a touch (behind James Cook) and was called upon more often after rookie Ray Davis suffered a concussion and couldn't finish the game. Johnson's highlight play came on a fourth-and-one from Denver's 24-yard line late in the third quarter. Josh Allen kept the play alive and found the 27-year-old for a sliding catch in the back of the endzone. Johnson's involvement next weekend could depend on Davis' health.
