Dion Dawkins Signs Three-Year Extension With Bills

Three-time Pro Bowl left tackle Dion Dawkins signed a three-year, $60.5 million contract extension with the Buffalo Bills on Monday, according to sources. The deal makes Dawkins the fourth highest-paid offensive tackle in the NFL. The 29-year-old former second-round pick by Buffalo out of Temple in 2017 has been a rock since landing in the NFL for the organization and has started 106 of his 112 games. He's made the Pro Bowl each of the last three seasons and has been a strong blind-side protector for Pro Bowl quarterback Josh Allen. Dawkins finished with the best pass-block win rate of his career in 2023 at 93.3 percent, and Allen was sacked the fewest times in his career (24) behind an offensive line that saw five starters start every game. Dawkins will continue to anchor on O-line in Buffalo that will look a little different at other positions.

Dion Dawkins Misses Tuesday's Practice

Buffalo Bills offensive tackle Dion Dawkins (ankle) was unable to suit up for practice on Tuesday. The 28-year-old has missed back-to-back practices ahead of Thursday's Week 13 matchup against the New England Patriots. Head coach Sean McDermott described Dawkins as day-to-day, so possibly he can still suit up on Thursday. Otherwise, David Quessenberry would likely be asked to make another start. The loss of Dawkins would be bad news for the Bills running game.

Dion Dawkins Will Play Versus Bears

Buffalo Bills left tackle Dion Dawkins will suit up for Saturday's preseason matchup against the Chicago Bears. This is positive news after Dawkins spent four days in the hospital from COVID-19. Dawkins returned to practice this week and apparently made enough progress that he'll get to play on Saturday. The Bills are certainly excited to see Dawkins back after rookie Spencer Brown and veteran Bobby Hart struggled to stop anyone in their first preseason game. It's uncertain how much Dawkins will play, but having him on the field is a great step forward.

Dion Dawkins Not Close To Return

Buffalo Bills left tackle Dion Dawkins was not available for the team's preseason opener against the Detroit Lions. It sounds like Dawkins might not be able to play anytime soon. He was been sidelined for roughly three weeks due to COVID-19. Head coach Sean McDermott mentioned Dawkins has a long road ahead of him. "He's not close to where he needs to be to play and help us," McDermott said. Both rookie Spencer Brown and Bobby Hart were taken advantage of during the preseason opener. Neither player could do anything to stop the Lions pass rushers. This is frustrating news with the regular season quickly approaching. Dawkins might not be in the right conditioning to begin the season. Which means, the Bills could be forced to use other options until he's ready. That is not good news for the Bills run game or quarterback Josh Allen who might be forced to run for his life without Dawkins available.
