Josh Allen News
While speaking to NFL Network's Judy Battista, head coach Sean McDermott admitted he's "absolutely nervous" about the amount of hits quarterback Josh Allen took last season. "I don't think that's a healthy way to play QB in this league," McDermott said. "We have to get that adjusted, and it's never going to go completely away, but it has to get where it's workable." Allen was in the MVP conversation last season, accounting for 42 touchdowns and throwing for 4,283 yards and 14 interceptions. He also had 124 carries for 762 yards, one-yard shy of matching his career-high from the 2021-22 campaign. However, the signal-caller was tackled on 66% of his runs downfield and also suffered an elbow injury, which fortunately didn't require surgery. Allen completed 69.2% of his passes in 2020 after connecting on 58.8% or less during his first two seasons. But since then, Allen's completion percentage has declined to 63.3% in the previous two years, so the 2018 first-round pick will need to improve in that area. If he doesn't, it could be a long season for fantasy managers, especially if McDermott plans on capping his mobility.
The Buffalo Bills restructured the contracts of quarterback Josh Allen and outside linebacker Von Miller on Monday, creating roughly $32 million in salary cap space this year, according to a source. The moves will give the Bills some extra space to work with as free agency kicks off this week. Allen played through a UCL injury in his right elbow down the stretch in 2022, but he avoided offseason surgery and should be fine for the start of the 2023 season. The 26-year-old remains one of the best high-end QB1 options in fantasy. Miller suffered a torn ACL in his first year in Buffalo and played in only 11 games in 2022. A healthy return for the 33-year-old this year would be a big boost to Buffalo's stout defense.
Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen (elbow) is on track to be fully healthy for the 2023 season and won't need surgery after fighting through a pretty serious right elbow injury in the second half of 2022. He's progressing well from a partially torn UCL, which forced him to wear a brace for a few games after initially injuring his arm on Nov. 6. The injury isn't as significant as the UCL sprain that kept him out for four games during his rookie season. But the soreness and the brace impacted his mechanics this past season. Allen had a platelet-rich plasma injection at one point and eventually ditched his brace late in the year. The 26-year-old's elbow will be something to watch in the offseason and training camp in the summer, but as long as he's ready to go for the season opener, he should be a top-three QB targets for fantasy managers.
