The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are re-signing defensive lineman Greg Gaines to a one-year, $3.5 million deal, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler. Gaines spent the last two seasons with Tampa following four campaigns with the Los Angeles Rams. Overall, the 2019 fourth-round pick out of Washington has accumulated 163 tackles (73 solo), 12.5 sacks, two fumble recoveries, and 20.5 run stuffs in 91 career contests (30 starts). He registered 17 total tackles and one sack in 15 games for Tampa Bay last season. He'll continue to operate as a depth piece along the Buccaneers' interior defensive line in 2025.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive tackle Greg Gaines (calf) and safety Tykee Smith (concussion) are listed as inactive for Sunday's tilt against the Atlanta Falcons. Gaines logged a limited practice on Thursday but was downgraded to a non-participant on Friday with a calf injury. Smith entered concussion protocol in Week 7 and has been unable to pass the necessary steps during the week. As a result, fantasy managers should expect Vita Vea, Calijah Kancey, and C.J. Brewer to see most of the snaps on the defensive line and Jordan Whitehead and Christian Izien should see most of the work at safety.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have reached an agreement with free-agent defensive tackle Greg Gaines. The two sides have agreed on a one-year contract for the upcoming 2023 season. This is a sneaky move by the Bucs to bulk up their defensive line without making a huge commitment. Gaines has started each of the last two seasons as a member of the Los Angeles Rams. During that span, Gaines has recorded 44 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, and 8.5 sacks in 33 games (25 starts) with the Rams. The expectation is that Gaines is going to immediately slide into a starting defensive tackle spot in Tampa Bay.
Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Greg Gaines (bicep, shoulder) recently underwent a labral and bicep tendon repair with Dr. Neal Elattrache. Gaines suffered the injury in training camp last summer and played through it in 2022. He's facing a two-month recovery, so the 26-year-old is not expected to have any limitations this offseason. Gaines managed to play through the injury and finished the season with 36 tackles (16 solo), six tackles for loss, six QB hits and four sacks in 16 games (12 starts) in his fourth season in the NFL with the Rams. Barring a setback, he should be fully ready for the start of the 2023 season.
