Carolina Panthers center Austin Corbett (biceps) suffered a torn biceps in the Week 5 loss to the Chicago Bears and will have surgery and miss the rest of the 2024 season. In addition to Corbett, right tackle Taylor Moton (triceps) suffered a triceps injury on Sunday and is labeled as week-to-week. A knee injury limited Corbett to only four games in 2023, so he will have played just nine total games in the last two years because of injuries. It's a downgrade for the Panthers' offensive line with Brady Christensen set to step into a starting role, beginning in Week 7 versus the division-rival Atlanta Falcons this Sunday. Moton is not going to play against the Falcons, but hopefully he'll be able to make his return in Week 7 against the Washington Commanders. Expect Josh Nijman to fill in at right tackle for Moton in Week 6.
Carolina Panthers guard Austin Corbett (knee) is being placed on Injured Reserve due to a knee injury. The Panthers lost Brady Christensen (biceps) in Week 1 due to a biceps injury, so they are now without their two starting guards. Carolina has the fourth-fewest rushing yards per game this season (92.3), so this does not bode well for running backs Miles Sanders and Chuba Hubbard. To make matters worse, the Panthers are set to face All-Pro defensive lineman Jeffery Simmons of the Tennessee Titans in Week 12. Expect running lanes to be scarce and quarterback Bryce Young to be under additional pressure.
Austin Corbett Not Expected To Be Ready For Season
Carolina Panthers head coach Frank Reich expects offensive guard Austin Corbett (knee) to miss time to start the 2023 regular season this fall. It's not a huge surprise after Corbett suffered a torn ACL in the regular season finale and had surgery to fix his knee in January. It's not idea for the Panthers' offensive line, but it would be good news if he can avoid landing on the Physically Unable to Perform list, which would require him to miss the first six games of the season. The 27-year-old started all 17 games in 2022 before suffering his knee injury. The former second-rounder in 2018 should resume his starting duties on the O-line when he's fully recovered.
Carolina Panthers offensive guard Austin Corbett has agreed to restructure his contract with the organization. They have restructured the deal in order to save as much as $5.9 million. The 27-year-old signed a three-year deal with the Panthers last offseason. He was solid for the team in 2022, but suffered a torn ACL in Week 18. That being said, it's uncertain if Corbett will be ready for the beginning of next season. Hopefully, Corbett won't miss much time if any at all because the Panthers need him on their offensive line.
Carolina Panthers offensive guard Austin Corbett (knee) suffered a torn ACL in the Week 18 regular season finale against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday. General manager Scott Fitterer said the hope is that Corbett will be back around the start of the 2023 season. The Panthers did not get into the postseason, so Corbett will be able to begin rehabbing immediately after his surgery. The Panthers are being optimistic about a potential return for the 27-year-old, but there's a very good possibility that he won't be ready for the regular season opener this fall. The former second-round pick started all 17 games for the second straight season in his first year in Carolina in 2022.
Austin Corbett Could Be Browns Starting Left Tackle
The Cleveland Browns have to worry about filling the left tackle position for the first time since they drafted Joe Thomas back in 2007. With Thomas now retired, the team has a position battle for who will emerge as the starter at the position. It is expected to come down to rookie Austin Corbett and veteran Shon Coleman. Browns beat reporter Scott Petrak believes that Corbett will win the job and open the season as the starter at left tackle. Corbett was the No. 33 overall pick in this year's draft, while Petrak believes the coaching staff is not impressed with Coleman at this point. Coleman filled in at the position after Thomas got injured during 2017, so he is expected to get first crack at keeping his job, but he may have a hard time holding off Corbett.
