Shaq Mason Being Released

The Houston Texans have informed starting offensive guard Shaq Mason that he is being released, a source tells FOX Sports' Jordan Schultz. Despite the fact that Mason started 32 games for the Texans over the last two seasons, they have decided to move on heading into the 2025 campaign. The 32-year-old veteran offensive lineman was scheduled to make $10 million in base salary this year. The Texans will save $2.117 million on this year's salary cap, but the move also leaves a $12.482 million dead-money hit. Mason dealt with a Grade 1 sprained MCL in his knee in 2024 but was able to return for the Divisional Round loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. The two-time Super Bowl champion with the New England Patriots will surely attract interest on the open market as an experienced interior offensive lineman.

Shaq Mason Agrees To Contract Extension With Houston

Offensive guard Shaq Mason has agreed to a three-year contract extension with the Texans. The deal is worth $36 million, with $22 million guaranteed. The 29-year-old landed in Houston from the Buccaneers in March, bolstering the team's offensive line for the 2023-24 campaign. Mason has plenty of experience under his belt, starting 115 games during his career. He is also a two-time Super Bowl champion, so his presence is good news for rookie signal-caller C.J. Stroud.

Texans Acquire Shaq Mason, Release A.J. Cann

The Houston Texans acquired veteran offensive guard Shaq Mason and a seventh-round pick in 2023 from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Tuesday in exchange for a sixth-round pick this year, according to a source. In a related move, the Texans then released veteran right guard A.J. Cann, who started 16 games for the team last season. It's the second straight season that Mason has been traded. The 29-year-old is versatile and can play either left or right guard, but he's likely to take over for Cann on the right side in 2023. The 31-year-old Cann wasn't terrible last year for Houston, so he should be able to latch on with another team in free agency.

Buccaneers Exploring Trade Possibilities With Shaq Mason

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are exploring trade possibilities with offensive guard Shaq Mason, according to sources. Mason could become a salary cap casualty if he isn't traded because of his $9.6 million cap hit in 2023. The 29-year-old former fourth-round pick by the New England Patriots in 2015 spent the first seven seasons of his NFL career with New England before joining the Bucs in 2022. In his first year in Tampa, he didn't miss a single game and started 17 contests. In his eight years in the league, Mason has played in 120 games, starting 115 of them.

Shaq Mason Restructures Contract

Tampa Bay Buccaneers guard Shaq Mason has agreed to restructure his current contract with the team, creating over $6 million in cap space. The move will provide the club with added flexibility entering the season. The 29-year-old produced another reliable season in 2021, earning him a spot on the All-Pro second team. He played in 15 games last season and will need to be a factor again this year, especially considering the number of injuries the O-line sustained during the preseason.

Shaq Mason Agrees To Five-Year Extension

New England Patriots offensive guard Shaq Mason agreed to a five-year, $50 million contract extension on Monday that includes $23.5 million guaranteed, according to a source informed of the transaction. He will earn close to $30 million over the first three years of the deal.
