The Buffalo Bills agreed to a four-year contract extension with right tackle Spencer Brown on Friday, according to sources. Financial terms of the agreement weren't immediately disclosed. The deal was negotiated by Chase Callahan and Ryan Tollner of Excel Football and proves that the Bills value Brown as one of the best right tackles in the game. The 26-year-old offensive lineman had offseason surgery on his shoulder but is ready to rock for Week 1 of the 2024 regular season this Sunday versus the Arizona Cardinals. Despite playing through his shoulder injury late in the 2023 season, Brown didn't miss a single offensive snap for Buffalo. With Brown on the right side and Dion Dawkins on the left side, the Bills have one of the stronger bookend tackle combinations in the NFL, which makes life easier on quarterback Josh Allen.
Atlanta Falcons running back Spencer Brown led the team in rushing in Friday night's preseason finale with 51 yards on 11 rushes with no targets in the air in a 31-0 blowout loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Brown impressed Friday night even though the team did nothing on the offensive side overall. Despite zero work in the passing game this preseason, the young running back had an impressive 5.1 YPC in 15 attempts in the two games that he played. The positive play is always a good sign during this time, but unfortunately for Brown, he will be nowhere near the playing field for the Falcons this upcoming season with at least four running backs ahead of him on the depth chart.
Spencer Brown To Be Full-Go For Camp After Offseason Surgery
Buffalo Bills right tackle Spencer Brown (shoulder) said at a youth football camp that he's co-hosting with tight end Dalton Kincaid that he'll be a full-go when training camp starts next week after undergoing offseason shoulder surgery. Despite having offseason shoulder surgery, Brown managed to start in all 17 regular-season games in 2023 in his third year in the NFL for the first time in his career. He was originally a third-round selection (93rd overall) in the 2021 draft out of Northern Iowa and has started all but three of the 44 games he's appeared in over his three NFL campaigns. The 26-year-old could be eased into training camp practices this summer, but barring a setback with his surgically-repaired shoulder, he should be ready for Week 1 of the regular season as Buffalo's starting right tackle.
Buffalo Bills offensive tackle Spencer Brown was a question mark heading into last season after a rocky sophomore campaign. But the 2021 third-round pick answered with authority and played every single one of the team's 1,305 offensive snaps. Pro Football Focus charted him for only two more pressures than Pro Bowl left tackle Dion Dawkins. He's now entering the final year of his rookie contract. The Bills will have a lot of salary cap space next year after receiver Stefon Diggs' dead money clears, but Buffalo could save a lot by giving Brown an extension in the next few months and not letting him get close enough to free agency for him to get curious about testing the open market.
The Carolina Panthers have elevated running back Spencer Brown from the practice squad. He's expected to be active for Week 9 against the Cincinnati Bengals after Chuba Hubbard (ankle) was ruled out. Brown registered his first snaps of the season last Sunday, rushing six times for 27 yards. He should continue to see touches this week, but not enough to give him any fantasy appeal.
Buffalo Bills wide receiver Jake Kumerow (ankle) and offensive lineman Spencer Brown (heat illness) have been ruled out for the remainder of Week 3 versus the Miami Dolphins. Kumerow has totaled four catches and 64 yards over his last two games, but he remains buried on the depth chart behind Stefon Diggs, Gabriel Davis, and Isaiah McKenzie.
Spencer Brown Scores, Paces Panthers' Backfield With 10 Carries
Carolina Panthers running back Spencer Brown handled 10 carries for 36 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's preseason opener against the Washington Commanders. He spent most of the 2021 season on Carolina's practice squad but looked determined to make the roster on Saturday with a couple of bulldozing runs. Chuba Hubbard was the backup running back last season and ultimately disappointed fantasy managers in superstar Christian McCaffrey's absence. The team also added D'Onta Foreman, who filled in admirably for an injured Derrick Henry in Tennessee last year. There are quite a few hurdles for Brown to overcome if he hopes to get a shot this season, but he may see the field as part of a running back committee if McCaffrey were to miss time.
The Buffalo Bills activated defensive tackle Star Lotulelei and offensive tackle Spencer Brown from the Reserve/COVID-19 list on Tuesday. The team also opened the 21-day practice window for offensive guard Jon Feliciano (calf) to return from Injured Reserve. Lotulelei hasn't played since Week 9, while Brown has been inactive for Buffalo's last two games. Lotulelei will return to bolster the Bills already strong run defense as they prepare to face the New England Patriots in Week 13 on Monday night. Brown should return to his starting right tackle position this week, boosting Buffalo's offensive line in an important divisional clash in prime time.
