The Arizona Cardinals have released running back Tony Jones (shoulder) from injured reserve with an injury settlement, according to Howard Balzer of CardsWire. Jones had injured his shoulder during the final week of the preseason and was placed on season-ending injured reserve. However, now that he was released with a settlement, Jones immediately becomes a free agent and is technically free to sign with any team. Teams will wait until he's fully healthy before making any sort of deal, but at least there's now a chance for him to suit up again this season, rather than spend the whole year sidelined. Jones had 132 scrimmage yards and two touchdowns in 2023, and he remains nothing more than a depth piece on NFL rosters. He should be avoided in all fantasy leagues.
Arizona Cardinals running back Tony Jones (shoulder) took seven carries for 29 yards in Sunday's preseason finale. He also caught two passes for 14 yards. The Cardinals went to the fourth-year veteran early and often, getting Jones a touch on five of their first seven offensive plays. Jones was knocked out of his final audition for the team early when he suffered a shoulder injury after getting tackled in the second quarter. Broncos linebacker Justin Strnad's blow also knocked the ball out of Jones's possession, the first of two red-zone turnovers committed by Arizona in the game. James Conner is locked in as the Cardinals' starting running back with rookie Trey Benson drafted to be his understudy. Even if Jones makes the final 53-man roster on Tuesday, he will not have the opportunity to provide fantasy value and can be ignored.
Arizona Cardinals running back Tony Jones Jr. has been elevated to the active roster ahead of the Week 11 matchup against the Houston Texans. The Cardinals are without Emari Demercado (toe), so Jones has been added to the roster as insurance. However, Jones is unlikely to have a big role in the offense with James Conner back in the picture. This season, Jones has 85 rushing yards on 23 attempts with two touchdowns in six games. He could see a few snaps on Sunday, but it probably won't be enough to warrant streaming Jones in any fantasy formats.
With Arizona Cardinals running back James Conner (knee) still on Injured Reserve and rookie Emari Demercado (toe) having not practiced this week due to a toe injury, the Cardinals promoted Tony Jones Jr. to the 53-man active roster from the practice squad on Thursday. Jones was claimed on waivers from the New Orleans Saints on Oct. 9 and was cut nine days later, only to resurface on Arizona's practice squad. He hasn't played yet for the Cardinals, but in four games with the Saints, he had 70 yards on 21 carries and four catches for 21 yards while finding the end zone three total times. If Demercado is unable to play in Week 9 against the Cleveland Browns, Jones could serve in a change-of-pace role behind Keaontay Ingram.
The Arizona Cardinals have signed running back Tony Jones Jr. to their practice squad on Friday. He was waived by the team two days ago, but it didn't take long for them to bring him back. The 25-year-old was originally picked up off waivers by the Cardinals in early October. He rushed for 70 yards on 22 attempts and scored two touchdowns this season. The expectation is that Jones will serve as depth in the backfield for Arizona. Fantasy managers shouldn't expect Jones to have reliable value.
The Arizona Cardinals released running back Tony Jones Jr. on Wednesday. The Cardinals picked up Jones off waivers from the New Orleans Saints, but he was with the team for less than a week and will now look for another team to join. James Conner (knee) is on Injured Reserve and must miss at least three more games. Keaontay Ingram led the Cardinals' backfield in the Week 6 loss to the Los Angeles Rams, with undrafted rookie Emari Demercado and Damien Williams also pitching in. The 25-year-old Tony will likely latch on with another team's practice squad as RB depth. In four games with the Saints this year, Jones had 21 carries for 70 yards and two touchdowns while catching four passes for 21 yards.
Damien Williams Active Over Tony Jones Jr. In Week 6
Arizona Cardinals running back Damien Williams is officially active for Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Rams. Meanwhile, fellow running back Tony Jones Jr. (coach's decision) is a healthy scratch. Although Williams, 31, will suit up, he'll merely fill a depth role behind Keaontay Ingram and Emari Demercado. Williams is not on the fantasy radar.
With Arizona Cardinals running back James Conner (knee) dealing with a knee injury that is going to sideline him for multiple weeks, the Cardinals claimed Tony Jones Jr. off waivers from the New Orleans Saints on Monday. Keaontay Ingram (neck) has also missed two straight games, so it's an understatement to say that Arizona's backfield is dangerously thin heading into their Week 6 game against the division-rival Los Angeles Rams. Rookie Emari Demercado became the team's lead back in the Week 5 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals when Conner was injured, and he'll be a popular waiver-wire addition this week. Jones had 21 carries for 70 yards (3.3 yards per carry) and two touchdowns and added four catches for 21 yards in four games for the Saints. Don't expect him to be heavily involved right away as he learns a new offense in the desert.
New Orleans Saints running back Tony Jones Jr. took over the backfield in Week 2 after Jamaal Williams (hamstring) left the game. Jones ran 12 times for 34 yards and punched in two touchdowns in the win. While Williams is trending towards being out this week, rookie Kendre Miller (hamstring) has logged back-to-back practices and looks like he will be ready to make his NFL debut on Sunday. Miller should lead the backfield and although Jones should see some work, it likely won't be enough to make him fantasy-relevant.
The New Orleans Saints signed running back Tony Jones Jr. to their 53-man roster from their practice squad on Wednesday. Alvin Kamara still has one game left to serve on his suspension and Jamaal Williams (hamstring) is now set to miss time after getting hurt in Monday night's win over the Carolina Panthers. Jones played 52% of the offensive snaps against Carolina and scored two touchdowns at the goal line, but he had just 34 rushing yards on 12 carries, while Taysom Hill led the team with 75 rushing yards on nine carries. Jones should see plenty of opportunities in a Week 3 affair with the Green Bay Packers, but his boost in fantasy value will most likely be short-lived once Kamara makes his season debut. Rookie Kendre Miller (hamstring) is also set to make his NFL debut in Week 3 as another option for the Saints' backfield.
