Trace McSorley Shines In Preseason Finale

Washington Commanders quarterback Trace McSorley shined in the second half as he threw for 125 yards with a passing score and added 40 yards on the ground. The former Penn State product led the Commanders to all of their 20 points in the second half. McSorley tallied his passing score in the final minutes of the game on a four-yard pass to Martavis Bryant. Jeff Driskel got the starting nod as he is currently listed as the No.3 quarterback on the depth chart, but McSorley's performance does put him in the conversation to take over that role. McSorley appeared in six games in the 2022 season and got the start in a Week 16 matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and threw for 217 yards. While his performance on Sunday evening may have earned him a spot on the final roster, he will only be fantasy-relevant if the quarterback room suffers numerous injuries.

Commanders Sign Trace McSorley

The Washington Commanders have signed quarterback Trace McSorley due to injuries sidelining backups Marcus Mariota (groin) and Sam Hartman (shoulder). McSorley, a sixth-round pick by the Baltimore Ravens in 2019, has appeared in nine games with one start, completing 48 of 93 pass attempts for 502 yards and a touchdown. He began his career as the third-string quarterback for the Ravens, behind Lamar Jackson and Robert Griffin III, making his debut in Week 17 of the 2019 season against the Pittsburgh Steelers. After spending time on the Ravens' practice squad, McSorley had brief stints with the Arizona Cardinals, New England Patriots, Chicago Bears, and Pittsburgh Steelers before joining Washington. With Hartman dealing with a right shoulder injury and Mariota struggling with a groin injury, McSorley will get another opportunity to show NFL teams what he can do.

Trace McSorley Added To Bears Practice Squad

The Chicago Bears signed quarterback Trace McSorley to their practice squad on Tuesday. McSorley last spent time with the New England Patriots but was released by the team late in August when they went to trim their roster down to 53. Chicago's signing of McSorley will give them depth in their quarterback room with Justin Fields tending to a dislocated thumb on his throwing hand. For now, it looks like rookie Tyson Bagent will start in Week 7 with Nathan Peterman operating as his backup.

Trace McSorley Released By Patriots

Quarterback Trace McSorley was released by the New England Patriots on Monday. The 28-year-old signed with the organization in April but did not earn a final roster spot. McSorley entered the league in 2019 as a sixth-round pick and has appeared in nine games, throwing for 502 yards, one touchdown, and five interceptions. He spent time with the Baltimore Ravens and Arizona Cardinals prior to his short stint in New England. The NFL is allowing teams to carry a third emergency quarterback on its active roster this season, so he could end up as a QB3 for another team.

Trace McSorley Signs With Patriots

The New England Patriots have signed quarterback Trace McSorley to a one-year contract. The 27-year-old saw some extended playing time after Kyler Murray went down last season. In six games, McSorley finished with 412 passing yards, zero touchdowns and five interceptions with the Arizona Cardinals last season. The former sixth-round pick is nothing more than a depth option at this point. It's highly unlikely that he does anything for the Patriots this upcoming season.

Trace McSorley Shows Inexperience In Loss

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Trace McSorley made his first career start against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday. The Cardinals are on their third string QB with Kyler Murray (knee) and Colt McCoy (concussion) both inactive. The 27-year-old certainly showed his inexperience during this game, including missed reads and bad passes that could've easily been intercepted. McSorley completed 24-of-45 passing attempts for 217 yards and one interception in the loss. The young quarterback also added 14 yards on seven carries in this game. The expectation is that McSorley will head back to the bench with McCoy likely clearing concussion protocol for next week.

Trace McSorley To Start In Week 16

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Trace McSorley will make his first start this season on Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The veteran quarterback has played limitedly this year, totaling only 25 pass attempts for 154 yards. Unfortunately, the Cardinals will start their third quarterback in as many weeks on Sunday. Kyler Murray (knee) suffered a season-ending injury in Week 14. Last week, Colt McCoy (concussion) left the matchup against the Denver Broncos early and won't play this week. The quarterback news is disappointing for fantasy players. James Conner and DeAndre Hopkins are the only two Arizona players that deserve consideration in fantasy lineups this week.

Greg Dortch, Trace McSorley Inactive Sunday

Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Greg Dortch (thumb) and quarterback Trace McSorley (illness) are inactive for Week 12 versus the Los Angeles Chargers. Both players had been listed as questionable. Dortch stood out after Rondale Moore (groin) exited last Monday's game early, totaling nine catches for 103 yards. Although Dortch and Moore will miss this Sunday's clash, Arizona should still feel good about its wide receiver corps, which is headlined by DeAndre Hopkins, Marquise Brown, and A.J. Green. Meanwhile, the Cardinals can survive without McSorley since both Kyler Murray (hamstring) and Colt McCoy (elbow) are active this week.

Trace McSorley Throws For 144 Yards In Preseason Finale

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Trace McSorley completed 15-of-29 passes for 144 yards in the team's final preseason game on Saturday night. The dual threat wasn't able to show off his rushing ability, as he got loose for just one rushing attempt that went for five yards. McSorley figures to have at worst the No. 3 spot on the depth chart secured as he has had significant playing time during the preseason. As the 53-man roster deadline looms, the 27-year-old will likely begin the season behind Colt McCoy as the primary backup to starter Kyler Murray. He is well off the fantasy radar as the regular season approaches.

Trace McSorley Throws For 229 Yards, Runs In Touchdown

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Trace McSorley completed 18-of-34 passes on his way to 229 passing yards in Sunday's 24-17 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. The dual-threat took off for five rushing attempts in this one but was able to turn it into just five rushing yards, and was able to find the end zone on a one-yard score. Despite throwing two interceptions, the 26-year-old looks like he will earn the QB3 spot on the depth chart behind Kyler Murray and Colt McCoy, as Jarrett Guarantano completed just three passes for 37 yards in the team's second preseason game. McSorley is well off the fantasy radar for now as he is buried on the team's depth chart.
