Khalid Hill Waived, Likely Headed To Seahawks Injured List
The Seattle Seahawks waived undrafted free-agent fullback Khalid Hill on Monday due to a shoulder injury. As long as no one claims him, he'll be heading to Seattle's injury list as they seem to really like him. Hill was the team's third-highest paid UDFA with a $12 thousand signing bonus, and he got rave reviews during spring workouts. With Seattle converting back to a run-first approach on offense, fullback has become a new talking point with Tre Madden expected to take the role. Hill was considered some of Madden's stiffest competition, so this is a boost for Madden's playing time and chance of winning the job.
Tre Madden made a huge leap on Saturday by officially being named to a roster spot by the Seattle Seahawks. Madden beat out former All-Pro Marcel Reese to snag the starting fullback job for the team. Madden looked impressive in the preseason, and his contract situation compared to Reese probably helped make him the more attractive option. Either way, Madden is penciled in for the plays instead of Reese, and he'll likely see some carries as he's more of a fullback/tailback hybrid.
Fullback Tre Madden isn't going down without a fight when it comes to the starting fullback spot for the Seattle Seahawks. Marcel Reese was the presumed starter coming into camp and hasn't performed poorly, but Madden is making a late push to upend the veteran. Madden made a fancy catch out of the backfield for the starting offense's only touchdown against Kansas City, he's been a force on special teams, and he's been close to perfect as a blocking back this preseason. Head coach Pete Carroll made a point of complimenting Madden and reinforcing that it will be a battle between him and Reese until the very end. If the team went with Madden, they would save approximately $300,000 this season as well.
