The Cleveland Browns reportedly visited with Tennessee Titans undrafted free-agent tight end Trevon Wesco on Wednesday. Wesco was originally drafted by the New York Jets in the fourth round (121st overall) in 2019 out of West Virginia. The 28-year-old spent the first three years of his NFL career in New York before single-year stints with the Chicago Bears and Titans in each of the last two seasons. He has just nine receptions on 17 targets for 134 yards and no touchdowns in 69 games (23 starts) in his five-year NFL career. Wesco has made a career out of being a blocking-first tight, so he won't even be close to the fantasy radar if he lands in Cleveland as depth in the TE room behind David Njoku and alongside names like Jordan Akins, Giovanni Ricci and Zaire Mitchell-Paden.
The Tennessee Titans agreed to terms with veteran free-agent tight end Trevon Wesco on an undisclosed one-year deal. Wesco was originally drafted in the fourth round in 2019 by the New York Jets out of West Virginia. In his first three years with the Jets, Wesco caught just six of his 10 targets for 87 yards and no touchdowns in 40 games (12 starts). The 27-year-old spent the 2022 season with the Chicago Bears, where he caught two of four targets for 26 yards in 14 games (one start). Wesco is mostly useful for his blocking skills as a tight end and fullback, so he won't have any fantasy value in Tennessee in 2023. He'll add depth for the Titans at the position behind Chigoziem Okonkwo.
The Chicago Bears claimed former New York Jets tight end Trevon Wesco off waivers on Wednesday. Wesco was the most popular player on waivers, as the Cleveland Browns, Indianapolis Colts, Cincinnati Bengals and Bears were all in on him. The Jets waived Wesco on roster cutdown day on Tuesday after he played in 12 games for them in 2021. He finished with just three catches on five targets for 35 yards and no touchdowns. In Chicago, Wesco will provide depth behind starter Cole Kmet and backup Ryan Griffin. The 26-year-old former fourth-rounder has caught six of his 10 targets for 87 yards and no scores in 40 games (12 starts) in his three NFL seasons.
New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh said that tight end Trevon Wesco (ankle) will miss two to four weeks with an ankle injury. Wesco has been operating as the No. 2 tight end behind Ryan Griffin with Tyler Kroft (chest) on Injured Reserve, but he's caught only two passes for 16 yards on four targets in 10 games played this year. With Wesco out for the foreseeable future and with Kroft not back from IR, Kenny Yeboah should see more playing time in Week 13 against the Philadelphia Eagles behind Griffin. Fantasy managers would be wise to continue avoiding the Jets tight end situation.
New York Jets tight end Trevon Wesco caught his only target for 32 yards Sunday afternoon vs Pittsburgh. Wesco made a big catch on third down and rumbled into the red zone to set up the Jets for an eventual Sam Ficken field goal, but was non-existent otherwise in the passing game. Wesco and Daniel Brown were the two tight ends for New York with Chris Herndon (hamstring) and Ryan Griffin (ankle) on injured reserve. Each tight end got one target and neither is relevant in fantasy.
New York Jets tight ends Daniel Brown and Trevon Wesco will likely split snaps again this Sunday versus Pittsburgh, with Brown the one likely to see more work in the passing game. Brown and Wesco are third and fourth on the Jets depth chart with starter Chris Herndon IV (hamstring) and backup Ryan Griffin (ankle) on Injured Reserve. No Jets tight end will have relevance in fantasy until next season.
