Trevone Boykin Fantasy Stats

Backup quarterback Trevone Boykin was released by the Seattle Seahawks. The second-year QB was Russell Wilson's backup last season without issue, but the team signed veteran Austin Davis in the offseason and left the position up to competition during the preseason. Both players struggled throughout the tryout, but the coaching staff decided they were going to go with Davis instead of Boykin. Boykin may still end up on Seattle's practice squad as the third-string QB.

The role of backup quarterback for the Seattle Seahawks has been up in the air throughout training camp, and Trevone Boykin let an opportunity slip through his fingers on Friday night. Boykin went 0-for-6 on passes against the Chiefs before he was replaced by his competition, Austin Davis. Davis went 5-for-5. After the game, head coach Pete Carroll told reporters that those six passes weren't enough to dismiss all the good Boykin's done in camp because the whole offense was out of sync during those drives, but even if Carroll says they won't have much impact on his decision, they certainly won't help Boykin's case either. Expect the decision to come down to each player's performance in the final preseason game.

After he's looked so bad in training camp that questions have swirled about whether he'll be able to hang on to the backup quarterback job, Trevone Boykin showed up like a pro for the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday night. Given the chance to run the offense in the majority of the preseason game, Boykin went 12-for-15 for 189 yards and a touchdown through the air as well as 31 yards and another touchdown on the ground. While third-stringer Austin Davis also looked solid in his performance, Boykin stole the show and now looks like the heavy favorite to retain the backup position going into the season.

The Seattle Seahawks continue to be without a real frontrunner for backup quarterback after last year's backup, Trevone Boykin, had another rough day in practice on Monday. The team has challenged Boykin's ownership of the role by signing Austin Davis in the offseason and hosting meetings with the likes of Colin Kaepernick. So far, Boykin has not lived up to the challenge in training camp, though he's been bailed out by Davis playing poorly as well. The team may continue to pursue other options if neither improves.
